Not a parrot but a cockatiel. The little bugger lasted for 25 years.

The summer I was in 8th grade I hand a Quaker from hatchling. I earned him by cleaning cages and aquariums the whole summer.
He was a really fun pet but birds are filthy. He flew away after I’d neglected trimming his wings and he escaped his cage while I was moving out of my first apartment after college.
My brother used to have 2 parrots, Conure I think. Miserable beasts. They would scream all day. It was deafening. When he let them out to fly around the room, they hated tall men. They'd pick out the tallest man in the room and try to pull his hair out while biting his ears. My brother died from a stroke in '10. He didn't have a family and nobody was crazy enough take them so they were on Craigslist immediately.

Was a hoot, said goodnight when I turned off the light
up and took sick and died after about 15 years

That what conures are like. Had one. Hated everyone, bit like a pitbull.
For some reason took a real liking to my nephew. He was the only one could handle the bird. It’d sit on his shoulder and nibble his ear and hair. Nephew died of a brain tumour. I wonder if the bird knew?
Girlfriend had a female blue and gold macaw until recently. Lived to be roughly 50 years old.
That bird was a lot of fun, and pretty quiet except when she wanted to warn us about something. Stranger at the house, etc. Really good that way. Mostly well behaved. She liked rock & roll, Christmas music and anytime I would whistle a bunch of songs for her. She definitely liked to go for rides, in a car or on my shoulder.
Very smart bird. Understood quite a few English words though she never spoke very many. Maybe 7 or 8 words or phrases, got lazy about using them as she got older.
If she ever wanted to hurt anyone, she could have done it easily. Watching her bite into a walnut or Brazil nut, effortlessly, was a constant reminder of why they have been called "flying boltcutters".
Certainly a pet, not at all like a dog but as smart as a smart dog, perpetually stuck at the emotional level of a human 2 year old.
Work is what you do to finance your real life.....
My sister owned one... Briefly. My brother said he didn't intentionally leave the cage door open, but.. Those things are loud AF! We could hear it screaming around the neighborhood for a few days before it finally took off for good

Beshear and his Daddy would give you community service for that.
Many. Blue and Gold, Scarlet and Harlequin Macaws Timneh African grey Eclectus
And literally hundreds of neophemas and long tailed parakeets. Actually made a significant profit raising the neophemas. But they made it VERY hard to travel. I raised Gouldian finches as well.
The wife and him found each other one morning when she was feeding chickens.
She woke me up to ask what the bird was on her shoulder.
I was the only one that he would kind of take care of him.
He did love his ice cream as well as cheese and spaghetti noodles.
He lived up to his name of Sebastian,he could be a pain at times.
Have a cockatiel as well. He showed up in the backyard during a heat wave several Julys ago. I thank my wife’s oversized flower garden for that. My GSP was trying to kill it and the daughter was trying to save it. He ended up on my shoulder and took to me. He’s been with us fifteen years now. A bird is my last choice for a pet as I really don’t think they should be taken out of their environment but I figured if he was in need of a home and picked the right place. A big cage and several bags of seed later he’s pretty happy and has yet to utter a single word.
when I was a little kid, we had a Cockatiel, but it died way back then. It got into something and ate it, and it ended up poisoning him. I was so young, I barely remember him.
and they have always bit the fire out of me. Bounced one off the popcorn ceiling. One somebitch latched on my finger like a snappin turtle. Gawd I wished we had had a ceiling fan back then at mama’s house.
My son has a big Red Tail Hawk. Does that count? It’s really quiet, doesn’t talk, just sits around looking cool and hasn’t bit anybody. When you turn it loose outside, it will follow you around in the woods until it sees something moving, then it kills it. What is not to like about that?

That really is awesome 👍.
No parrots, but years ago we had a parakeet that would have seizures that would leave him thrashing on the bottom of his cage. An eyedropper of whiskey and water would bring him out of it.
I was rehabbing my knee and the facility had 2 that lived outside of their cage. Filthy things, crap all around the cage.
They crap literally every 15 min. Friend had a cockatoo that spent most of the time on his shoulder. He just knew when to hold her over some newspaper to let her do her thing.
She got spooked when a dump truck rattled by and flew into the living room window trying to escape. Broke her neck. He was heartbroken.
I have owned a cockatiel and a conure. Often times conures turn out to be a one person bird. Mine was awesome. Rode around on my shoulder all the time.
I've also owned a bunch of different finches. Those are cool birds....
My friend married a gal who had a blue and gold maccaw. That thing talked up a storm and cussed. It was 58 years old and had been in her family since she was a little girl. It would bite the shiit out of you. I never knew they lived that long. She said it has never been sick. When you knocked on the outside door, it said come on in. You would swear it was a person talking. It had a huge cage and they let it fly around the house most of the time.

How was the Eclectus? I always thought of getting one but didn't know how it would get along with my Conure.
I've had a number of different finches but never did get into Gouldians. I raised and sold Strawberry finches for a few years.
What a great concept. Own a nice house and keep it in decent shape. Then one day you wake up and think I need a bird to fly around the house so they can crap on everything. Owning an indoor cat follows the same idea.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I miss him. He was cool.
Eric, that happened to our last Quaker- my fault. It landed on a rooftop a street over and I couldn't talk it down. We recently bought another but couldn't warm up to it so we exchanged it for one from the same breeder in Houston. This one is super sweet with a great little personality. Had it for 3-4 months now. Will immediately answer my call and is learning to talk. It mimics my wife when she talks to it. People would be surprised at how amiable they are.
