not sure this is the best spot for this question but I'm going to try.

let's say a person had two identical suppressors. except one is in 30 caliber and one is in 35 caliber. how would the noise and recoil reduction compare if both were used on say a 308? I guess what I'm asking is how much louder would the 35 caliber be and would it also be less efficient on recoil reduction?

You won't know until you measure decibels. Barrel length, charge weight, velocity, etc etc etc have an impact on how well a suppressor design works. Then of course not all suppressors are the same then there is a difference between first shot pop (lots of O2 in the pipe) and the third shot.

Sooo your question has way too much Kentucky Windage to really answer. But try and let us know.

Ideally, you want the exit hole to be sized to what you are shooting. The larger the hole, the more noise.
You can’t really compare two completely different guns and cartridges, but let’s say you have a 9mm suppressor you also use on a 300 blackout. Ideally it will have removable end caps in both diameters, as the 300 will be quieter with the .30 caliber end cap vs. the 9mm.

Now, how much and if you can even tell, you won’t know until you shoot them.

Many suppressors have removable end caps to make them more usable on different calibers.

I am using both a Hybrid 46 and a YHM R9 on my ARs and other rifles and really can’t tell the difference. I am sure that there is a measurable difference, but I can’t tell.

Slightly - but the smaller and faster the lesser caliber, it will leak additional decibels out the front.

Running 6.8 .270) out of a .30 Omega, there’s not a lot (subjective) of difference in the sound level, comfortable to me without earplugs.

Running a .260 through the same .30 caliber can - there was a marked increase in decibels, and not a combo I’d not choose to shoot without hearing protection on.

IMLE - Having the correct caliber cap on the end of the can is most important if you want to reduce decibels across multiple rifles with one can.
