Oh, I forgot another option. I have several. older/vintage Williams 1pc bases/rings with rings. The unusual part is the rings are held on with a thumbwheel. I believe they screw into the receiver in the front (the two tapped holes just behing the barrel on the reciver), and go all the way to the two tang holes in the rear of the receiver. I'd have to dig them out, but i will if there's any interest, and i'll post photos. I can't say what the old stock/availability is, as I bought them in the 80s or 90s, and while it doesn't seem that long ago to me...... it was. -TomT
Seems to me that Williams also sold a peep sight that fit their base for use as an emergency "back-up."

Yes, here is one for the Savage 99. They called it an Ace in the Hole sight back then.
What’s the consensus on the Burris QD rings and the Warne QD rings on top of Weaver bases?
Warne QD rings don't have an integrated recoil lug, so they are easy to lose in the field.
I use Durasight QD rings if I really think that I'm going to swap scopes in the field, but they only come in medium and high, so not a great fit for all applications.
I think Weaver is the only one making modern 2 piece bases. They had some quality issues for a while, but haven't heard much about problems in the last couple years. It'd be #14 and #19 bases.
If you want vintage 2 piece bases, you might find a few different types watching eBay. Redfields, older Weavers, Pachmayers, even Savage sold bases for a while...
I don't think the modern Weaver bases look much different than anything you'd have bought at the time.
“The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com
I loudly Second the recommendation for the Weaver quad lock rings. The vintage Weaver rings are a pain to set up since they turn the scope as the screws are tightened.
The current Weaver 14 and 19 bases are identical to what was built on day 1 of manufacture. It's the cleanest and lightest thing to use.
