Would a guy be crazy not to buy a stainless T3x in .308 for $525...?

It's not in perfect shape, has been hunted but not abused.

Thx,
Todd

If you want a 308, I'd say it's a good buy. Or a donor action..

Hahaha, I guess I just needed a little push.

I'll grab it tomorrow and run it as a .308 for now.

It'll probably end up as a donor down the road if I stumble across the right barrel.

Thx,
Todd

It would make a good loaner too.

Hard to beat a Tikka T3X in 308 - I love Mackay Sagebrush’s saying; “it’s the Glock 19 of the rifle world.”

Scope the bore if you can, especially the area 3-6" in front of the chamber. Someone might have shot it too much too quickly. If it looks like alligator hide or a dry lake bed, then pass.

I should have done that on a 308 that I recently picked up. Looked great on the outside but the bore was already pretty close to being cooked.

Hot dang that must take a lot of fast shooting for a 308 bolt gun

Well, turns out that it wasn't a T3X, but I bought it anyway.

If I can find a prefit 260 barrel I'll finally scratch that itch.

Until then I'll just run it as is. 👍

At least its still a deal! and you can just replace the aluminum recoil lug. Or throw it in an x stock if you want to change grips etc.

Tough one to say no to either way

I had a McMillan Classic Hunter to drop it in, and that had a steel recoil lug in it. 👍

Holy cow! You're really ready to go! Doesn't matter at all then, unless you've ever said "wow I wish I had a slightly bigger ejection port and metal bolt shroud" but you might just have the shroud already with the badass stock? lol

The guys that think they need a slightly bigger ejection port, are funny as hell. I've never noticed any difference between the function of the T3 and the T3x in that regard. I do like the steel recoil lug and alloy bolt shroud on the T3x though. Sounds like the OP was quite prepared for getting this rifle, having the Mcmillan on hand and ready to go. That is excellent. A heck of a good deal on the T3 stainless as well. I don't really like 308w, but I'm hanging on to my T3 stainless. It's a shooter. I'll bet the OP's shoots just fine too.

Yeah, I never noticed any functional difference at all either, but to each their own lol. Will also gladly take the bolt shroud and recoil lug upgrade and the ability to use the vertical grips etc on the new stock though.

I did just that with my T3 stainless 308. I think we've talked about that rifle before. Factory stocks are very cheap and easy to find. An upgrade to a T3x stock from a T3 stock is a good thing. I'm like the OP, I found my T3 308 for cheap, and bought it, without hesitation though.

It was also $500.00, but it came with a nice Bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40. I didn't need the scope, so later sold it for $230.00. I also sold the hideous Tikka factory rings for $35.00. So, well into the rifle for way under $500 now. Now it sits in a takeoff T3x stock, and suits my needs just fine:

It's a shooting machine. It shoots almost as good as my heavy barreled model 70, but weighs about 3 pounds less. There's beauty in a lightweight tack driving hunting rifle.
