Hollerith cards predated the teletypes, no? And yet I had 6 years on teletypes before ever seeing punch cards.

Hold my beer junior: Please. You ain’t old unless this was your first computer. That’s just a calculator… And my first calculator had no buttons, and was about 2”x10” No - that is not a calculator. It's a punchcard typewriter. That was how you took your hand written code, transferred it to punch cards, then batch read it to the old mainframe computer to run your first year computer class assignments in college circa 1976! Or did you mean the abacus?

Hold my beer junior: A FORTRAN computer programming course in 1971-1972 was one of the most frustrating courses that I ever took. A tiny syntax mistake and you end up with 50 pages with single number printed on each. That was when I truly realized how stupid computers are.
