I posted this very interesting and allergy provoking story last year. At Christmas time, I hold this story in my heart as I do all the Christmas stories that always get to me!šš I still havenāt recalled where I first heard it, but with the world as it is, itās very fitting at this time of year to remember that God is in control. Even In War, Goodwill Toward Men Merry Christmas Everybody. Please remember the reason we celebrate Christmas. Without the Christ, the would be no Christmas! Reon

I was hoping it would be that story, thanks for posting it.
"...if the gentlemen of Virginia shall send us a dozen of their sons, we would take great care in their education, instruct them in all we know, and make men of them." Canasatego 1744
Says it was first published in Readers Digest back in the 1970s. I know Mom read Readers Digest all the time, and this is just the type of thing that she would have shared with Dad and us boys. I give Mom more credit than anyone else for my faith. She taught me to believe as a boy, and I know that it was her prayers and Carolās folks that carried me through until I found Christ myself. The made for TV movie called āSilent Nightā is still available on YouTube. Could be I saw it on TV first, but I doubt Iād have forgotten it as an adult. In spite of my allergies, Iām a sap for this kinda stuff at Christmas time!š Reon

What outfit was you Dad with? The Old Man was a half track driver in the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment, Second Armored Division. His unit was just outside Aachen Germany at the time. He told me a lot about what he saw and did over there. I wish I had written it down or better yet recorded him telling me. It was his influence that made me a reader of American history. Reon

My wife's step dad used to tell us about taking a round from a German machinegun to his leg. He didn't go into detail about where it happened. At the time of his death I saw the letter that accompanied his Purple Heart, reading it I had a ho-lee-fÅck moment. He was wounded during the Battle of the Buldge. His sons didn't know when/where their dad was wounded...

75th Infantry Division. Posted this pic before, but one of those kids is my 18 year old dad.

You only live once, but...if you do it right, once is enough.

Thatās a great picture. Thank you for the post.
Fortunately, my father just missed combat duty; he served in occupied Japan. However, his older brother was killed in the Philippines, December 14, 1944 just before Christmas; Homer had just turned 20. Grandma and Grandpa never got over losing their first son.
Adventure is the only thing you buy that makes you richer

Hereās the movie.
Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
Is your Dad still kicking? WW2 vets have been getting more and more scarce. The Old Man has been gone for 13 years now. Through him, I had the pleasure of meeting many others. We owe these guys a debt that can never be repaid! Thereās a reason why they call them the greatest generation. They were!š BTW, thanks for posting the link to the movie. Reon
