300yds, 270 savage Axis 150 grn Rem coreloct bullet. Hunted high prarie outside Craig CO. 3 day hunt, got mine day one my partner on day 2 on day three we rested while the butcher did his thing with our animals, day four we headed back to PA. Drove straight through. Won't do that again at my age. I had a European mount done by Kanati taxidermy in PA. Hunted with H&H outfitters, can't say enough good about them.

My wife likes the antelope better than deer. I was a little concerned because I have had friends who took an antelope tell me they tasted likem crap or tasted like sage ans they couldn't eat it. I suspect the problem was the animal was not properly taken care of after the kill, not that they just didn't taste good.

Congrats. I have given up on the hope of ever hunting elk or moose, but pronghorn is within the realm of possibility. Have you eaten any yet?

Yes we have eaten some, it is delicious. Don't believe those who tell you it tastes bad or tastes like sage. If you take care of the animal after you shoot it will be good. Our outfitter took our animals directly to a butcher shop after we shot them and they were field dressed. They were skinned, hung in a cooler for a day, butchered vacume packed and quick frozen. When we picked the meat up it went in an ice chect(150 quart) with dry ice and the ice chests were taped shut intil we got home. It was still frozen when we got home. My wife likes the antelope better than deer venison and and likes deer venison.

Congratulations Oldtimr1! I have to say it’s kind of refreshing to see someone go out west on a hunt and shoot a nice animal without a $3000 custom rifle and handloads. I have a Savage Axis in 350 Legend and it’s very accurate. Good on you sir!
