Old Lang Syne poem - Robert Burns

Auld lang syne, in case anybody wonders, is old (17th century) Scottish "old long since" � what we'd now call "the good old days" and sing about "for old times' sake."

Nice, isn't it?

Ken...How many drunks have you heard try to sing that song withoput having a clue as to what the lyrics were??

I don't think that I've ever heard anybody sing more than the first verse and the chorus:

(Should old friends be forgotten

I like the second verse, too:

Like so many other things, it means a bit more when you know that it signifies more than "let's get drunk for the last time this year."

When I think of New Years, I think of that song. I once went to New York City to work a New Years weekend in an intensive care unit as a traveling nurse for a little extra money. I heard an old German man sing that song on a street corner. I could not understand the language but recognized the tune to the song.
