Captain (Reverend) Samuel Clayton of the Texas Rangers.😀
Guess what I been watching again.
Sorta brings up a question about Duke and Ward Bond. The two had a great friendship all their lives.
I read that the two of them were hunting pheasants, and Duke accidentally shot Ward with a load of birdshot.
Nothing serious, the two remained best friends until Ward’s death
After which, he let the shotgun to Duke in his will!
I know there’s lots of other Duke fans around the’Fire. Anyone know the details of the story?

If Duke shot Ward, why/how would Ward leave Duke "the" shotgun in his will?

The two had a strong friendship that lasted decades, even surviving Wayne accidentally shooting Bond in the behind on a hunting trip with Bond's shotgun. It was a story they joked about for the rest of Bond's life. The actor even left The Duke that very gun in his will, not letting his longtime buddy forget about the incident long after his death.

This is no place for logic.

Was Ward going to make a movie about Hillary trafficking children?

Because Wayne was using Ward Bond's shotgun.

Wayne thought so much of Ward Bond that he insisted Lauren Bacall's first name in "The Shootist" be Bond as a way to honor him.

Wayne did a lot of things like that. The closing scene in "The Searchers" where Wayne is standing in the doorway and holds his arms in an unusual way was a tribute to his friend Harry Carey Sr. who used to stand that way. Carey's widow played Mrs. Jorgensen in the movie. She didn't know Wayne was going to do that and got emotional when she 1st saw it on screen.

Figured somebody here would remember the story, considering the number of Duke Fans.😩
I don’t recall where I read it originally, but I knew Bond had willed the shotgun to Duke, and that Duke was heartbroken at losing one of his best friends.
I took the liberty of reminding myself of the whole story and posting it here for those who were interested.

Nobody could yell like Ward Bond. He took chewing out someone or something to a whole nother level. A true pro at yelling.

Stagecoach for example. Always bellowing.
