A friend gave me some metal shelves. I had a frame with wheels under an ice cream box I used for dog food when I had pointers. I made it to fit two of the shelves. I’ll put expanded metal on the sides and back I think. I need more shelves, getting ready to rehab my work shop. It was built out of pipe I got off remodel jobs, tin came off old fabrication sheds on plumbing jobs.

If that is half as sturdy as it looks that would make a heck of an ammo shelf! Everything I build in the garage is on wheels anymore.

I don 't miss milling machines--I don't miss lathes--I don't miss surface grinders.

But I'd like to have a TIG welder. I got pretty handy using one back when I was machine shoppin' around.

There's all kinds of tricks one can do with a TIG welder.

Me also.

Don't even own a welder, just a oxy/acetylene torch.
Gotta go to Dad's to weld.

The small amount of time I was allowed to diddle
with one didn't do me any good. Maybe if I had
one to use and practice with and a pile of scrap . .

I've done better with the old ratty crackerbox
stick job, or the "new fangled" flux jobs.
After trying to use a regular mig outside in a
breeze and the gas blowing thisaway and
thataway it was enough for me, not to mention
trying to get a full bottle while waiting for the
welding supply/gun store-type loafers to get
done chatting

3 cracker boxes
1 MIG
1 portable welder
2 torch rigs

4 shops between town and the ranch keeps 'em scattered pretty well.

Now, if I could just keep track of what is in which location, or anticipate what was going to be where, when needed?

I've got a bunch of friends who used to TIG weld Cannondale bicycles.
Aluminum, titanium...

They used a spool gun for the filler,
Welding up $5000 plus bikes, using both hands and a foot simultaneously.
The place closed about 12 years ago. Most are glad now, the $14-16/hrs they
made is just a bad memory. The ones working with me get double that.
No certifications required, no burning out their eyes and ears.

Easier to find what you forgot you put on that back shelf....

Course you gotta keep all the little rocks off a da floor.

Never heard of using a spool gun with tig. Has to be mig.

From the wording I took it as using a mig set up to run the root and finishing out the cap with a tig too.
Unless they were set up with a robotic tig rig, they use a continuous feed of filler from a spool of wire.

At any rate, it looks like Hanco enjoys staying busy (thumbs up)

Got it done, built small cart for a friend this afternoon, had shelves left over. I don’t know if I’m up for painting mine. I’m about ready to put new metal on my junkie old workshop
