well i have a 270-300 win mag i had built in 2004.with the loads i use with 130 and 140 grain bullets it is a bughole shooter,my favorite caliber of many i own.so i have a itch and might want to have a 27 nosler built,most will assume i am building this for much heavier bullets which would be totally logical and rational.i still would like to shoot from 130's up to max 160 grainers,again just a preference and not what many would think beneficial with the 170 grainers becoming available.will mostly be shooting barnes,hammer and some noslers like accubonds and partitions,just want to eliminate possible bullet failure.also would need to have the rifle with a proper load capable of shooting sub 1/2" moa,anyway any input with twist rate as i stated earlier 130 to 160.thinking maybe 9 or 8 and 1/2.all opinions welcome.do i need this caliber no,but need and want are different.thanks in advance to all of you rifle loonies.

i would consider one of the forbes rifles listed in the classifieds for sale if looking at that caliber

I'd ask what are you planning on hunting.
If your interested in 160 and 170g bullets your going to have to speed up your twist.
With your 270/300 you know very well how effective 130/140 bullets are.
What would 160/170g bullets gain you.?

Just me, but I'd go 7.5 twist and shoot whatever you want. You won't hurt a Barnes or PT but you'll gain RPM's if you decide to try heavier stuff.

No reason not to go with a fast twist.

Just make it 8 twist and run the mono .277 150 grain Badlands Superbulldozer with a G1 of .710 at 3300 fps using Retumbo in a 27 inch barrel. Build it heavy.

thanks to all for responding,to answer daves ? it wouldnt do much at all over my beloved 270=300 win.just was a thought.seeing as have my 300 dakota and also 300 win mag also several others a few larger and smaller,i am set up to hunt anything that walks i will hold off.maybe since i dont have any 7 mm i might fill that niche with a 7 mashburn.i know you would approve of that,even Bob would be on board with that.rip mr Bob

I have a buddy who has built two of them.

Brian Litz wrote an article on scaling BC and in theory .277 is the sweet spot but sadly the bullet makers are focused on .264 & .284. So there is the bullet issue.

Brass is a big issue. Nosler isn’t supporting their own cartridge and it is pretty much dead to Nosler. Peterson made a run of brass but there will never be support from the other boutique brass makers!

I would build another 27-300W but I understand the urge to fiddle with stuff. I would get a twist of 1-8. I am using 1-9 in my 270W’s. Have had three and have had good results.

I've got a fair bit of new 27 Nosler brass if you end up needing some.

Got a link to that article, by chance? I tried to Google-fu to no avail. I’d like to read it. I just put a 1x8” pipe on my 270 Win with the intention of making usage of the newer heavyweights that are coming out. Thx.

I would go 8 twist then you can run the higher BC heavier mono bullets coming out. Barnes makes 155 lrx now, badlands has impressive BC 140, 150 and hammer has several 140+ that require faster twist.
