I have a 336 Texan in 35 Remington that shows by serial number to be a first production made in 1952. I am not planning on selling it but was wondering what it is worth.

Condition, condition, condition. That would determine whether it’s worth $300 or $1000.

It is in good shape. Blueing has some wear. It is a waffle top that is drilled and tapped. Were any of those drilled and tapped from the factory? Any 336 scope base fits is why I ask. This gun was passed down from my uncle who lived in Dallas to my brother. My brother gave it to me for Christmas about 25 years ago and has since passed. I plan on giving it to my nephew.

Family heirloom?

Then it's priceless.

According to some of the Marlin experts, 1955 was when Marlin started tapping for scope mounts. With some blue wear and non factory D&T then it's a shooters grade (nothing wrong with that) and would probably sell in the $500 to $700 range. But as Feral American said above, family provenance gives it a much higher value than its monetary value.

Not that I have to worry about my boys with my collection after I'm gone (I've made sure they each have a half they don't have to fight over or be butthurt about what the other has) but I've told them in no uncertain terms my leverguns are never to be sold. Only handed down through the generations to family that would never sell them when they get them. I promised to haunt from the grave if even one is sold off. Lol.

Luckily, both of my sons know to not ever sell anything that came from me. They both appreciate the sentimental value of guns as much as I do. My nephew means as much to me as my kids do and he will get his fair share of my guns when I am gone. I have already given them some of my collection and my nephew will get this one. The serial number starts with J which puts it at 1952 when I check it. I have a few other Marlins and will never sell any of them.

I think I may hunt with this one some. It hasn't been to the woods in about 10 years.
