Go with the Tikka superlite 300wm. You can load down or up as you please. 1/10 twist. Accurate and smooth as butter.

225 grains from a 308 case is easy….if you screw a 358W barrel on….

You immediately lost me when you listed that which you considered a “big” gun! 🤔 Carry on! 😉 memtb Same here! When I saw the title of the post, my immediate thought was that a 375 Ruger might be an option to suggest as a starting point. Apparently, I was wrong...

At range, the 308/225/2400 fps combo I suggested becomes "bigger" than your definition of a "big gun", so I guess we just need to define our terms better all around!

Now that Tikka has updated their 30 cals to 1:10, why not a 308 T3X, add a 30-06 mag and long bolt stop, and hurl that 225 ELDM at 2400, and kill any big stuff at just about any range? The .77 BC really seems to do wonders on paper, and outrun a whole lot of bigger guns at distance...
Talk me out of it?
Thanks.
Pete Why not just get the Tikka in an '06 ?

Tikka in 300 shorty. 200 grains with some pop. Only one definition of dead. 325 would be better.

The 06 would be my alternative of course, but performance likely wouldn't be much different with that long 225 shoved so deep in the 06 case, vs being seated as it should in a long action 308.

Why a 30 caliber bullet? Are you hunting with it and if so what?

Is there a better step up from a Creed to fire a highly efficient bullet at reasonable velocity/recoil from a lightweight factory gun? That's how I ended up here.

The Kreed is simply fhuqking Exceptionally Special,as it will squirt a .697 BC at 2700fps,with rather modest recoil. The '06 can't and the 308 isn't even in the same Universe. Hint.
Bullets matter wayyyyyyyyy more than headstamps ladies...............
