Local owned classic stainless model 70 SA .243 new haven for sale Asking $950(has dropped price $50). I have bought several model 70 FTW but no classics, although I have researched them. What would be a fair price for the rifle? .

No Boss. Pictures not the best on our local site so I will see if he will send me some pictures. Thanks for the information. I will see if he will give me its serial number to get a better idea of what year it was made. Anything else I need to know or look for.

If it’s truly classic stainless it will be 5 or 6 digit (early /mid 90s) with a fw contour barrel. If it’s standard contour barrel it will be a 7 digit shadow model.

Knew the lower digit rifles where more desirable but didn't know the difference on the barrels. Thanks for clarifying the difference. Have a weakness for model 70 xtr featherweights

Thanks, just checked it out. Sent a post to another responder on that site who said he had just sold a stainless .243 a few month ago. Trying to get the bst idea of price to lffer.

He got over a $1000 for his rifle, so this may be a good deal. I'm got to give him a call to get the serial number to get its age.

The rifle is worth an easy $1,000.00, if it's in excellent condition. The wood stocked ones are worth a little/lot more. Nice rifles. If it's a 5 or 6 digit that makes it even better. If you want it, I probably wouldn't squabble over a price point of $950.00

Sorry buddy. The other guys that responded to your question were pretty spot on. I was busy yesterday. Watching the girlfriends granddaughter's basketball game, then movies and dinner etc. Have to step away from this place every once in a while. ha ha..

Sounds like you found a nice one though. The short action stainless fwt's are a little harder to find.

just received some pictures from him. Rifle looks to be in good shape. serial #G1677xx little scuff on butt pad. Looks good owner says he has had it several years, traded for it, says it is very accurate with 100 grain bullets and Nosler 95 grain.

Barrel left side Winchester Model 70 SA 243 Win Made in New Haven, CT Right side of barrel --CLASSIC STAINLESS-- Butt pad has W with circle around it with Winchester under it serial # 1677xx I'm thinking this rifle was made 1995or 1996 . Am I correct. Has rounded fore stock not a FTW fore stock. What do you think BSA

No. It’s synthetic.

Sounds good to me. I am one that actually doesn't mind the tupperware stock. I generally just paint them up, add some texturing, and a good recoil pad and glass bed them. But you can also just keep them all stock, and use them as is. I'll bet it shoots 100gr Hornady interlocks very well. My girlfriends classic compact 243 seems to love that bullet.
