With AR15s, suppressors and 30 rd mags to do a deer cull from helicopters.

For the Americans, all three are now banned in Canada, at least for ordinary citizens. Not to mention hunting from helicopters is illegal.

Typical government reaction. Open a special season and give out free licenses and the problem would have been taken care of in short order. They could have limited the number of licenses and held a lottery and it could been a safe hunt and the wanted results could have been achieved at very little cost to the government.

But, who expects reason from government.

First off, there is no question the use of a foreign company to do this is absolute crap and the people of BC should keep this front and center as time goes forward. In the end though, the whole situation illustrates a number of problems in our society. First is the inability of people to take care of things themselves and a willingness to let government take care of them. The people on the island should have told the government to eff off and that they would handle the problem. The other issue is the absolute disconnect between government and the people.
Of course, the other issue is, these are fallow deer, an invasive species which are not a game animal. The population today is a fraction of what it was and probably could have been taken care of by Vancouver Island resident hunters. There are some families on the Island with a long tradition of poaching. They could clean those babies up in short order; especially if they are allowed to use spotlights!
It should certainly come as no surprise that the governments, both the federal commies and the provincial commies, are out of touch and stupid. Hopefully, we can replace them with some with functioning brains, but the odds are against it, on the provincial level. GD

Why not hire Canadians to do the job, why even do it??

Last time I saw this done by our CLUELESS Government in Alberta, they decimated the Mule deer population where I hunt them.

Canada is a "Ruined Nation" and I do not see it ever getting better. Pity, Canada used be a great Country.

It is yet another example of the inexcusable and incredibly idiotic hypocrisy the Feds under the leadership of PM Sparkle Socks is capable of.

It'd be a whole lot more humorous if it wasn't happening to us, I'm fairly certain of that.

Thanks Dwayne. I’m not a member there but I can imagine the guy was very erudite.

On the subject of gov’t waste, I just spent the afternoon for sitting in a parking lot for 3 hours while my SD went to a specialist appointment. It took her over a year to get this appointment, and she was in so much pain that Slavyanka took her to a private clinic in Romania for treatment in August. She was advised to keep this appointment just as a follow up to the August surgery and to get her name in the queue if any further problems develop. Had she waited until this appointment, she would have waited at least 18 months more to be scheduled for surgery.

She was also told flat out that this doctor and hospital are not taking any more referrals at all as they are backed up for years. In the end, she wasn’t even seen by the specialist but by two of his assistants. No explanation for why her appointment was delayed for 3 hours.

Friends just got back from Mexico where they booked an appointment for their youngest son with an ear, nose, throat specialist. He had an appointment here (after another year wait) which was cancelled at the last minute and not rescheduled. While on vacation, they simply booked an appointment and got everything they need if they decide to take him back there for adenoid surgery (about $3000).

Of course, this is our wonderful “free” health care that Sparklesocks loves to drone on about. Of course, we can’t have two-tier health care as that would be discriminatory. What is really happening is that the wealthy simply do what we did - go out of country (we’re hardly wealthy, but you do what you have to do, right?)

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it and as I neglected to remember to wish you a Happy New Year, please accept it now.

Sorry to hear about the ongoing health issues your family is experiencing sir, it's so frustrating on so many levels.

Indeed my late sister in law went to Mexico for cancer treatments that she wasn't able to get up here at all. Now for sure it did finally take her, but it does seem to me she was with us for years longer than she'd have been without them.

Our healthcare system out here is in such dire straights that one of the only hospitals serving the entire south Okanagan - Oliver - which covers Keremeos, Cawston, Osoyoos and Anarchist Mtn plus all the rural folks in between - had it's ER shut down several times due to lack of staffing.

That said, some of this can be laid at the feet of the provincial NDP in power, but not all of it.

Let us hope for and continue to work toward better days ahead.

Our kids and grand kids deserve better than we're leaving them.

All the best to you all.

Those pukes are correct you know. One doesn't "need" a full-auto, high-capacity AR platform to kill deer. Wrong of course about the suitability of the cartridge to kill deer. Not that they know a damned thing about it.

Compare the average number of shots a hunter uses vs the number the spray and pray helicopter mercs. probably used. Not to mention that 20% oopsie wrong-species figure which is also avoidable by real hunters.

"Need" has nothing to do with it. it's about .gov control. Armed citizens are not to be trusted. Foreign mercs. will do what they are told. More or less.....

"kill the largest number of people in the shortest time possible" - reference the above.... and it's not true anyway.... but then deer aren't shooting back, so I guess that's a point. Deer are intimidated by a single shot rifle, enemy combatants need to be influenced to keep their heads down. The weapons interchangability only goes one way, but it does go one way.

Reason, logic, and accountability have no place in a Lib's mind.

On the filp side, I quote my brother on a related subject (handgun purpose), "If killing time comes around, I want one!" (I personally have handguns, and only SA .22RF rifles)

Libs are consistently inconsistent. You have your VI situation, earlier we had one here in AK. A caribou herd is in dire straights, with no replacement recovery evidenced, so ADF&G whacked 100 bears they found actively chasing or feeding on caribou on the calving grounds, during calving season. About 80 more than estimated before the cull, some of which probably migrated in from up to 100 miles away for the calving period, some of those potentially from distant "bear viewing" areas during salmon season. Also 5 wolves...

Probably using AR platforms, certainly using helicopters. The calving ground is in a very remote area which sees almost no bear hunting take. 1 or 2 a year. The caribou, on the other hand, later migrate out into less remote areas and feed any number of villagers and "sport" hunters.

The uproar from Libs and game preservationists and anti hunters was enormous - caribou don't count apparently - only those cute Teddy bears.

.gov does the same thing down here, with excessive national Park bison/maybe elk too - migrating out of the park causing problems. Answer is "government hunters"..... when they could make bonus bucks from real hunters taking them.

I don't think I'd trade FJB for Sparkle Socks tho... longevity issues. smile

You would have to take a couple more of ours.

AR's are prohibited.
If one wants an AR style rifle that is like the deadly AR...let him sell his cloak and his azz and buy a Kodiak 180 (Gen 2)
and it is legal, made in Canada too.

Coming back to this due to recent developments on my own health, in contrast with what my poor SD25 has had to go through for her own health issues.

I’m at an age where I’ve had ongoing prostate issues, though nothing serious. Got to the point where my family doctor suggested I see a urologist, but he advised that none of the several in the medium-large city he is located in are taking any more referrals, much less returning his calls (and he went to medical school with a couple of them). So he suggested I ask if a urologist in my small city would accept a referral from him. One did, and I got an appt within a month, with another this past Monday suggesting things aren’t as good as they should be, so he’s referring me for an MRI, which will probably take 4-6 months. Fair enough.

I also had asked my family physician about a small umbilical hernia I’ve developed. He suggested a surgeon take a look a look at it, and again suggested I find one closer to home. I got an appt within 5 weeks and today she recommended a surgical repair. Fair enough. I saw her secretary for surgery dates and, due to cancellations, they have an opening next Wednesday, so I’ll go under the knife within a week.

Contrast the care I’m getting in a small city with a newer regional hospital to serve about 100,000 people, with the care my SD25 is receiving at one of the top 3 medical teaching hospitals in Canada, which has a 3 year backlog for surgery and is not even accepting referrals any more. I had a bit of a chat with the surgeon (a South African ex-pat) and told her of my SD25’s having to travel to Romania for surgery. She suggested it probably could have been done within 6 months here, and she also told me that many people with umbilical hernias are simply going to Florida to have it done.

The object lesson being, stick with the smaller places for better care.

Good afternoon sir, I hope the week went well overall, all things considered.

Here's Pierre Poilievre's response to this issue.

I have to hand it to the FN lady for speaking the unvarnished truth.

All the best, especially with the upcoming surgery.

For what it is worth I worked out some time ago that the Australian Government hates Australians...and apparently the Canadian Government hates Canadians.

JSTUART;
Good Friday afternoon here or Saturday morning for you already I see, I hope tomorrow for me is currently behaving for you sir.

The current leader of our Conservative party actually compressed a lot of my random thoughts on the matter quite well when he said - more or less - that the extreme left hate anyone who can think, fend, provide or defend themselves. They want people who will be totally reliant on a central government.

All that to say then, for sure they're attempting to curtail firearm ownership, hunting, burning firewood, etc., as they lead to independent behavior and lifestyle.

During the depths of the beer flu, one of PM Socks' Evil Minions floated the idea of registering our gardens, you know so "they'd knw who had what" and "to better gauge food production capability"....

Right....

We'll sign right up for that one.

It's about control in my view, control of every aspect of our lives because they know what's best for us.

Obviously too, any measures taken that might damage the general population will necessarily not have any affect on the ruling elite, because after all they know what's best and need to keep in tip top shape in order to make good decisions on our behalf.

Perhaps I'm wrong about that sir, and perhaps God made me 6'4" with a full head of hair too, but He didn't and I don't believe I'm wrong either. wink

More or less that was one of Tucker Carlson's statements by the way, that "they" hate us.

You're not wrong, he wasn't wrong and I just wish I was.

All the best to you all regardless of the interesting days we're travelling through.

Dwayne

Good afternoon sir, I hope you're getting a bit of a break in winter out your way and you're all well.

The only item you've neglected is you'd get to use a suppressor as well..

Meanwhile any of us Canucks who own AR, AK or FNFAL variants can't legally take them out of the safe - for 4 years now - because they were so dangerous for us to have that they needed to be banned, but we can keep them, but we can't use them...

But of course we can't even be in possession of a 30rd mag or suppressor, again it's for the safety of the children of course.

Once more I'm finding myself saying, "this'd be a whole lot more funny if it wasn't happening to us".

All the best.

it really is not funny and shameful , we have the same problems , look at the island full of moose Isle Royal how that is being handled by bringing wolves in to kill moose. we could have made money selling licenses and hunts but no these over educated worthless liberals have a different expensive way with our tax money .

Good afternoon or likely evening out your way, thanks for the reply.

It is shameful that instead of providing much needed and appreciated protein for lots of folks in both instances, the folks in charge find a more expensive and less logical solution.

More evidence of JSTUART's contention that indeed "they hate us".

All the best to you this weekend.

The Canadian Government doesn't know the FIRST THING about Wildlife management.

The wholesale slaughter of animals is so F'ing stupid, it's unimaginable!

The animals in Canada and Canadians that hunt are F'ed.

Canadian Wildlife Management Policy. Stick your finger up your arse, put it in the air and see which way the wind blows, and make political decisions that have no bearing on reality.

Ungulate management isn't the Federal governments job, that is the Provincial governments deal, so not sure what has happened here, perhaps its not a native species, but an introduced species?....unless I'm missing something?

The Federal government has jurisdiction for migratory fish and game, such as Salmon, Geese etc....

Top of the morning my friend, I hope it's warmer up there too and the last Saturday of the month finds you all well.

My understanding of how the Feds got involved is that a chunk of Sydney Island a National Park since 2003.

So even though they've set a precedent and allowed FN hunters into Banff or Jasper already, "they" seemed not to want to allow local BC hunter access on this one.

That said, on that BC forum I'm on, there's one fellow from Victoria who has participated in culls on that island before, but I'm not clear if they were only on the private land or not.

At one time I wanted to go shoot a Fallow on one of the Gulf Islands as that would complete my "One of every deer species in BC" list.

In the early '90's it was a goal for me as I'd managed a Columbia Blacktail from Saltspring and a Sitka Blacktail from South Moresby on what was then the Charlotte's, now Haida Gwaii.

Anyways, it's the National Park thing that's got their toe in this water.

All the best.

Dwayne, thanks for that.....The National park....that is what I was missing.

Everything about the cull is wrong, and when you consider its a Federal entity, that explains the issue completely.

Morning once more sir.

Totally agree with your thought "Everything about culling is wrong" - especially if the Feds are involved and the meat is wasted.

I can see a cull in a closed ecosystem, but not saving the meat is reprehensible.

All the best.

Correct 673, having lived in 5 provinces and hunted and fished in 7, I should have been more specific. Both the Provincial and Federal governments do a piss poor job in both Fish and Game Management. I can cite numerous examples, which I have personally witnessed.

Here are a couple of examples in BC that you are already familiar with. Grizzly Management and the Skeena River situation. I have been fishing the Skeena River for many years, really Pathetic!

yes they were introduced from somewhere either G Briton or Europe,
They inter bread with the Columbia Black Tail which are a cousin of mule deer. they are slightly smaller then the CBT T and their antlers spoon like a Cariboeu.[Look up Fallow Deer].
Sidney Island and i think James Island[EX CIL plant] have lots of them and they swim over to the Saanich peninsula where they have interbread with the CBT.

60 years ago i was on Sidney Island helping the major land owner culling wild domestic goats because they were over grazing and in the way of his sheep flock. The guy owned almost a Quarter of the Island.
