Until pretty recently there was a road in our neighborhood called Ni**er Hill Road. I think it was renamed in the 1970s for a white family with several generations living on the same farm since the late 1800s.

Back in the 90's I worked with a guy Ronnie Nichivich -pronounced nik-uh-vick. He was a big guy.
Jimmy a co-worker walked through the break-room and hollared -big nik-uh-vick at Ronnie - just saying hello kinda thing.
A big black lady [employee] was sitting 15' in front of Ronnie when Jimmy said it. She thought Jimmy looked at her and hollared -big nggr bish , laf. She popped up and said -what did he say ???
Ronnie said no-no - he's talking to me my last name is nichivich.
Ronnie said the same thing happened in a store once.
