Does anyone make 17 caliber cast bullets or casting molds ?
Also would like to here about any experiances with using lead bullet castings in 17 caliber.
Would like to try in a 17 Mark 4 with light loads

I think Veral Smith of LBT may cut one or Mountain Man Moulds? I don't really know, but it will be hard to keep that mold hot! Good luck!

Guess you won't be too bothered by the rising price of lead!

Never heard of any, actually scratch that, some folks did have some made for use in pelletguns. The problems they had was keeeping the mold hot enough for consistant fill out, and they bullets just didn't shoot as well as commercial swaged pellets.
I think you'll find pellet gun pellets powered by a primer might be worth trying.

Currently no one has gas checks, sizing dies or top punchs to fit either. Gonna be expensive.

I know Veral used to have a mould around for the 17s. I asked him about it via email correspondance when I needed a few for a firelap job on a bad shooting 17rem. I ended up making my own w/ a crude mold formed from an old Daisy barrel...worked for the lap job, but I wouldn't use them for anything else. Just out of curiosity, what are your plans for this project? Thanks.

I was recently in touch with Veral, and he told me he didnt recall ever making such a mold, but he did say he could make one for me, just didnt get a price from him in first corraspondence by email. Gas checks are another thing to figure out what to do, its a pain in the butt. Low vel quite load is what I was going for.

then you prolly won't need GC's.

Well...he did have one at some point. I dug this email up that he sent me a while back.
"Thanks for writing Nathan. Judy overlooked the mold lube when she sent your order, and it's easiest for you to email your mailing address than to look it up. So do that and she'll send you a stick. I found the 17 caliber mold, but haven't seen left over bullets. At any rate I can fix you up. Price with postage will be $12 for 30 pieces, $18 for 100. They are a pain in the rear to cast, and I only have a 2 cavity mold for them, because I made so few. I believe S&W quick the Friction Block, and we don't have any left. Tetra lube is equal if not slightly better. Also I saw that Blount sold a Friction Block 4 or 5 years ago, I believe Outers brand name. They may still have it, and it may be the same. A call to them would prove it out.
Veral"
