What's really crazy, aside from the obvious is the locations referenced.

I'm pretty familiar with both areas, myself I'd find the area surrounding 5400 block of South Tacoma Way, where their restaurant is located to far more dangerous than the junction of Bourbon Street and Kerlerec Street in New Orleans.

Neither are ideal spots to find yourself walking the streets at 1:30 am but if I had my choice it'd be the New Orleans location.

Just my observations...

Sounds like quite a windfall for Carter's hubby to me. wink

The wife and I went to New Orleans late in life and loved the city at first sight. The food, music, and history were great. The street people and feral negros ruined it for us very quickly and we'll never go back. I was always armed, but only heavy weapons and a security team would be enough these days.

S Tacoma way is a dump for sure. Worked around S 50th and STW for about 15 years.

Not even in the same realm as most of NO. Property thefts are likely close but violent crime wouldn’t compare.

Just struck me as a odd spot for those two to open a restaurant at.

I spent a few months working on some investment property near 80th and STW. The banks kept the doors locked, you had to get 'buzzed in' after recognition. Round about where their restaurant is there was a convenience store where the owner had a 12 gauge leaning against the wall in plain view by the register which was caged in.

Lots of gang activity there and plenty of strip joints and porn shops.

Over all seedy place...

Tacoma doesn't see half the homicides that New Orleans does over all but the precise locations differ a good bit with New Orleans appearing a little better than Tacoma with the cross streets referenced.

Obviously NO didn't pan out for Jake...

This^^^^ Black culture in America is a very dangerous thing now. Very sad situation. We go nowhere unarmed, but would never frequent 'the quarter' or any other NO hell hole.

NO is dangerous. I've been on bourbon St when there was a shooting just about half a block away from me. The police roped off only about 100 ft of the street while they took pictures and loaded the body in an ambulance. Everyone just kept partying on the othersides of the police tape.

A girl at a local restaurant told me it happens almost every week. She also told me never take any of the back streets at night and that I should always stay where the crowds are. It's an incredibly corrupt Democrat run city.

The industry I was in had their national trade show there about every 4th year. I always hated going there. We always had stuff stolen from our booth when in NO and you couldn't even walk a box of catalogs to your own booth by yourself. You had to pay a union guy about $140 to watch you do it.

I lived and worked in the NO for several years in the 80's. There are a lot of places in NO proper that I wouldn't go and some places where I felt perfectly safe.

I had a chance to go back 15 years ago and with a family that I didn't have in the 80's I declined the promotion. The guy who took it got the job and declined to move and did the job from Tyler, TX and they let him.

BLG: "I doubt it was anything other than a robbery gone bad. They kill indiscriminately. They don’t need a reason."

The shooter is probably black. Two gay boys, playing identity politics would have gladly handed over a hundred bucks to a "poor downtrodden" African American. I just can't see either of them putting up a fight.

Da'Quarious Dontavious pulled the trigger just for the hell of it.

I think it was in 2008 Ray Davies of The Kinks, was mugged, shot and wounded while escorting a female companion home. The brothers got no respect!

I’m 350 miles north of that damn place and another 300 would’t hurt! Only way I’d go to that damn place would be with the 82nd Airborne! Double for Houston, Dallas, and Ft. Worth!!

First of all, nothing good happens between midnight and 5:00AM.

I am not a big fan of going to New Orleans, but do enjoy the occasional visit. My wife and I will stay in the Hilton on Gravier, have a nice meal in the evening, back at the hotel before nine. The next morning we will go to the WWII museum, the French Quarters, or walk along the river and head home. I always carry, pay attention, do not go to stupid areas, at stupid times, with stupid people.

It is no different than most big cities here and abroad.

I’m sure it was a good article and a great loss for the world but this is as far as I could make it.

My knowledge - anyone who has truly experienced "most big cities here and abroad" will not agree with that statement. Been to NO many times over the years - has become worse and worse - and now rotten.

I visited NO first in the 90's and several times since, it's been rotten since the 90's. Bourbon street used to be pretty safe, but the city in general is violent chit hole. Lots of wild Norwegian's ..
