I wonder if the anti-gun crowd has any idea how many firearms are in the hands of private citizens in this country today? I'm sure they don't Bob, and if only a tiny percentage of them 'failed to comply' with the confiscation the left keeps hoping for, thats still a heap of trouble for them. There is safety in numbers.

Why do it matter? We don't know how many shovels are in circulation. This. An assault shovel? My old folding GI shovel had a pretty wicked side edge.

Assault Rifle actually has a legitimate historical definition. It's a short rifle/carbine in an intermediate chambering (partway between full powered rifle and handgun in power factor) with a detachable, double-staggered, box magazine, and capable of firing both semiautomatic and fully automatic with the flip of a switch. This has been the accepted definition since WWII.
The made up term that politicians came up with was Assault Weapon, which basically refers to whatever they want it to refer to, typically any semi-automatic firearm (handgun, rifle, carbine, or shotgun), chambered for any centerfire cartridge, that accepts magazines holding more than 10 rounds. Oh

I say it is way more than that with all those 80% lowers that have been finished, and all those lowers that turn into complete guns from parts, there are way more than the number said. It's the lowers that are counted. Not the barrels and handguards. 80% lower is not a gun.

Neither moniker is correct unless you happen to be assaulting someone with it at the time of mentioning it. Both are simply inanimate tools. Nothing more.

If the number seems low they are probably accounting for the fact that half have been lost in boating accidents.

does an M1 Carbine qualify as an "assault rifle?" it was my grandfather's rifle thru WW2 European Theater. oh, while we are at it, i've been wanting to get an SKS, does that qualify too?
personally, due to my time in the Army, i'm indifferent of the assault "anything". if you use a lower, great, have at it. if it makes you apathetic, great. the one thing you do is protect the 2nd amendment. don't matter if it is single shot or fully auto, protect the 2nd amendment.
