Do they tend to be good shooters and good overall quality? I see them occasionally in chamberings that appeal to me, 257 roberts, 6.5x55, 7x57, 300 savage, ect. I have a friend offering me one in 300 h&h, haven’t handled it yet but in pictures it appears to be very clean and I’ve been thinking about a 300 h&h anyway. Probably get worked in to some sort of trade but he mentioned $900, I didn’t think that sounded too bad, but doesn’t seem like a great bargain either?

I have a Classic in 7x57 and it's very accurate, I have hunted off and on with it for 40 years ....its had nothing done to it but a scope added to it

I've had classics in 17Rem (which ingwe now owns), 250-3000, 300h&h and .375h&h.

All were excellent shooters except the .300h&h. Never did really get that shooting the way I wanted.

The classics IMO were some of these best Remington ever made.

I’ve got one in a rem 350 mag. It shoot way better than I can!!

I have two 6.5x55 and 250 Savage. both have had pillar bedding, glass bedding the action and Timney triggers installed. Plus both barrels are free floated. Both shoot really well with factory ammo.
Fit and finish on both are right on. I think the classics are some of the best 700's made!

I've had two of them. One was a .17 Remington and it wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn with multiple types of ammo, handloads, multiple scopes, etc.

The other was a .300 Savage I bought second hand, but it was unfired. I bought it to rechamber to .308 Winchester. My buddy on the otherhand, collects classics. I've fired a few of his and for the most part they all shot well. I really liked his .35 Whelen.

I have two. A 30-06 and a .35 Whelen. I haven't done much with either one for various reasons. I really wold like to find on chambered to the 7x57 at a reasonable price. The few I have seen were priced way too high considering their condition. Looked like they were rode hard and put away wet. The 06 was made before they did the limited runs in one cartridge per year and AFAIK 30-06 was never in a limited run. The 700 Classics are nice rifles. At least the ones I have are.

I have owned 3 of the classics, like their lines but got them more for the calibers tha anything. 300h&h, 257 roberts, and 250 savage. Only have the roberts presently wish I’d kept them all though I gave the 300 to our son. All three shot better than my aged eyes can see, handloded for all three and never really took the time to try in find that magical 1/2 moa (for me magical) at any rate they all shot around moa , which I consider minute of coyote to 400 yards and more than good enough. If you can live with a push feed action go for it I think you will be more than pleased.

i own one in 338 win mag wasn't looking for it but for $700 at a gun show and in mint condition (minus the open sights) i couldn't pass it up but a vari x II 3-9 gloss leupy on it and its turned into a safe queen....... beautiful wood and bluing

I have an 'o6; nothing different about them to make them any better or worse than any other Rem 700.

Only difference is no sights & the classic stock.

To get something "better", you need to get into a Custom Shop rifle of some flavor.

All of mine are good shooters and are very accurate.

A friend I grew up with has every caliber they made in the Classic line. They’re all good shooters too b

My 270 Classic has always been the standard by which I judge the accuracy of other rifles.

I have one in 35 Whelen. It is a shooter and my favorite stock pattern of what I own.

The unlimited production Classics and early limited production Classics are A and B prefix actions—arguably the best era of the chrome moly M700’s.

Whether an individual rifle or chambering is accurate is probably up to you and the rifle.

I've owned, and shot two 700 Classics: 250 Savage and 7x57 ("7mm Mauser"). Build quality was excellent on both. Both shot well, about 0.75 moa -with the 250 Savage being more accurate. Both had nice stocks that were close the perfect quarter sawn grains. (tight straight-grained, nice contrasting dark/medium grain). Sold both off 20 years ago in my herd thinning move. I miss them, but not enough to second guess my decision to move them out.

I have a few, all shoot very well. I prefer rifles with no cheek piece.

I've had several over the years, can't remember exactly how many now. At present the only one I own is in .220 Swift
calibre. 1200 rounds or so through it and it is still very accurate. I have always liked a stock less the cheek piece.

Probably my most favorite design although I have developed a liking for Winchester 70's in Super Grade (new models).

I've had four: 250 Sav, 300 Sav, 280 Rem, and 350 RemMag. Traded away the 280 but still have the rest. All have been capable of sub 1 in, 100 yd, 3-shot groups with factory ammo.

Maybe a mistake trading the 280, but I wasn't using it and came across a rifle I wanted more.

For you shot group fanatics, they're hunting rifles - three shots is enough!

Only one I've modified is the 300 Sav, had the barrel cut back to 22 in and target crowned, just personal preference, but it shoots even better than original. With a Leupold 2-7 VX-2 it's a sweetheart of a deer rifle and gets used the most.

I remember when CDNN was closing out the 8x57 ones. Stupid cheap and for some dumb reason I didn't order one. I have a 250 Savage. Nice rifle, but the stock finish bleed over to the recoil pad spacer, which has shrunk a little. Doesn't effect anything, but its the little things I notice and seems Remington always messed up the little things.

I've one in 8x57 that I like quite well. It's very pleasant to shoot with stout 200 gr loads, and silly accurate.

Ditto with my 8x57 classic. I worked up the load for it which was not very hard as it is pretty good with anything and it has been a safe queen since. I do need to fix that.

The 700 Classics are good rifles, but I prefer a stock with a raised cheek-piece, so my preferred Remington factory installed stock is the 700 Mountain Rifle style.

I've had a 700 Classic in 30-06 on the shelf for nearly 20 years that I bought on 03/13/04 for a donor action and have never gotten around to do anything with. Maybe it is time for it to go down the road.

I’ve owned them in 223, 222, and 17 Rem. Just bought the 222 here couple months ago. Have sold the other two. All have had great accuracy. The 222 is about .75”, pretty decent for a factory gun and no load development yet.

Had 7x57,257R,300H&H,6mm,222.Have 250Sav,300Sav and 308.

I have one on 6.5x55 and another in 375 H&H and used to have one in 350 Rem Mag. They proved to be good accurate rifles. The only reason I don't still have the 350 is my wife bought me a CZ 550 American in 9.3x62 and I liked it better than the 350.

I have 2 of the 700 Classics. One is a .257 Rbts and the other is a .35 Whelen. Both have been flawless and excellent shooters.

I have several. Have a 35 Whelen, looking for a 257 Roberts or a 7x57..

I have a .250 and a .300 Savage. Both bedded, free floated, triggers adjusted to 2 3/4#, and both are quite accurate.

All that I’ve had shoot great. They have a good feel to them.

I bought a Turkish Mauser that had been barreled with a 700 Classic takeoff barrel in .250 Savage. Sent it home with dad to see how it shot. He couldn’t find a load it wouldn’t shoot well using multiple powder/bullet/primer combinations.

I’ve owned a few. Now only have .221 FB and .243 Win left. Probably won’t let go of those for a while. I do like the Classics, I’d buy a .250 Savage if I could find one.

I had classic in 25.06 and and it was very accurate and easy to load for. I passed it down to my brother and replaced it with a model 700 CDL so it's still in the family. I'd love to find one chambered in .308 but they are pretty scarce. I've always loved wood stocked rifles.

Years ago I bought a Rem 700 Classic in .375 H&H thinking that I would go on an African hunt with it.

Before I ever shot it, I went through a very nasty and expensive divorce. Because I had bought that rifle while we were married, she and her lawyer thought she should get it for her to use deer hunting. As far as I know, she has never even been deer hunting. The Judge ruled in my favor on that one.

So after the divorce and the possibility of an African hunt became real, I took a hard look at that rifle.

Starting with my first centerfire rifle, I've bedded and finished stocks on most of my rifles. The factory stock on that rifle was too short for my and I would have to legthen it. The wood on the factory rifle was also very plain. I also like a cheek piece on my rifles.

That rife also had iron sights. For my bolt action rifles, I like clean barrels without iron sights.

If I remember right, that rifle also had a 22" barrel, and I like 24" barrels.

I also wanted to have it rechambered to .375 H&H Improved.

So with all of those personal negatives, I ended up trading it at a gun show for a Rem 541-T .22 LR and I bought a Rem 700 SS .375 RUM that I re-stocked and ended up taking it on two African and one Alaskan hunts.
