I did something like that for a friend that got married. We bought a large box of canned goods for them. Kitchen needs stocked, right?
Pulled off all the labels and wrapped the package.
They never knew if they opened the can, whether it would be green beans, carrots, peas, pie filling or cat food. Got a big laugh out of that one!

I switched the labels on the canned goods in our cabinet when I was a kid. A couple of meals of green peas with pineapple made sure I never did it again.

I remember reading a story, probably in a reader, when I was in grade school about a family that fell on hard times and the local grocery had canned goods that had lost their labels. They donated them to the family and the family happily awaited each meal to see what the surprise was going to be.

Don't need to remove labels. I can put salt in my coffee, brush my teeth with shaving creme (working up to the Prep H), etc.

I mess up enough without help. (a few beers help too)

One day I dumped sugar into the flour container by mistake. Breaded up and fried pork chops that night. Best I had ever cooked before!
Wife took a bite of hers first, said they were really good and what did I do different? Said same as usual. Then took a bite myself, back tracked and figured out the mistake.

Been making that same "mistake" for 30 years now.
