I see a guy taking heat for cutting down one of these in .375. Are the other chamberings scarce as well? I’ve got a line on a .338 and think it would be great with the barrel shortened to 22 inches. I don’t care too much about collector value and just want to shoot some big animals with it.

Certainly it’s the owners choice as to what he/she does with their firearm.

“Chopping” a SS Model 70 in .375 H&H, is borderline blasphemy….. but, if it makes the rifle better for his intended purposes, it matters not to me!

To “chop” a SS Model 70 .338 WM…….no big deal, there’s lots of those out there! memtb

Apples to oranges perhaps, but my .338 Alaskan Stainless Laminate weighs 8lb 2oz. I’d say that’s just about right for a rifle if this type. I would prefer a 22in barrel but I think I’ll leave it alone for now.
