I remember an interview years ago with Jimmy and his wife Gloria. It was the usual questions an actor would get with small talk. Near the end of the interview Gloria was asked,"What's it like living with someone famous ". Without missing a beat she responded," He's not Famous at home" I got a good laugh out of that..
Jimmy Stewart was a serious varmint hunter and made several woodchuck safaris with well known northeastern 'chuck hunters like Harvey Donaldson and Grosvenor Watkins in the 1950 and 1960s.
Also, in Strategic Air Command, Jimmy wore my Dad's winter jacket. They were filming @ Eglin, but the scene was supposed to be somewhere cold. Dad had recently come in from AK, and was the only one with a coat to loan for the scene.

His movie was the reason “1 of a 1000” Winchesters shot up in price……..$350-450 before the movie.
The original one used in the movie was purchased for $5. A man brought it into Ellison's in San Mateo to be repaired. After being repaired the gentleman decided it was not worth the price charged and told the gunsmith to keep it. Mr. Ellison gave him $5 to make it a legal sale. Later Ellison noticed that the movie studio was offering anyone with an original 1 of 1000 Winchester a brand new Winchester 1894 in exchange for the loan of the rifle. This rifle was on prominent display in Ellison's gun store along with the news clipping describing the transaction. I really miss that store.
I attended a Greg Martin auction in San Francisco 20 years ago where an original 1 0f 1000 1873 was auctioned off for around $750,000.
