My load for the 570g TSX is straight out of the book "Any Shot You Want". 103g H4895 gives 2300 fps and recoil is not an issue offhand, from the bench it's sporty but not punishing. My IMR 4350 load pushing the 570g TSX to 2510 fps is punishing. I just did that during initial load development. I don't recommend it.

Chuck

Meanwhile at SCI 2024 one vendor had this .500 Jeffery for sale, and there were a couple others within a half-mile walk:

Bare Bertha weighs 10 lbs 13.3 oz as she lies in recliner at the Hilltop Gun Shop & Spa for Wayward Rifles.
After her barrel lug and barrel channel glass bedding she is going to blow the H&H ideal for sure !

Here is a Terry Wieland load for the 500 Jeffery,
from his HANDLOADER #300 article, "Light Loads for BIG CASES":

480-gr Hayley RN Cast
AA-5744 48.0 grains
COL 3.16"
F-215 primer
velocity = 1362 fps

No filler needed.

AA-5744 works great in my 500 Jeffery for light loads.

How many grains of AA-5744 with how many grains of bullet weight have you found to be agreeable, please and thank you in advance ?

When Bertha finally gets out of the spa she might want to start off at .50-70 Government levels for fun,
then work her way up to .50-140 for more fun.
If I can get .512"-sized (BHN 25) bullets to chamber, that is what I am going to use, 450-gr to 650-gr, powder-coat-painted, smokeless powders.

Saving the paper-patched and BP for later.
Patched to .510" diameter with 1:20 (tin:lead) then smacked with BP.

Bertha's 1:20" twist ought to be perfect for all that.

Crap, it is 20*F and snow on the ground here today in down-south Kentucky.
So I sit here typing on the 'puter.
Where is global warming when you need it ?

But the muzzle brake cancels all that out ...

FYI Reeder Custom Guns advertises Ruger #1s in 500 Jeffery as a shop specialty.
I want one!

Mega Beast

Quote
Field grade … $1995 on your Ruger #1
Deluxe grade … $2495 on your Ruger #1

About 10 years ago we introduced our new Mega Beast in 470 Nitro, 500 Nitro and 500 Jeffery, and it is still very popular. … The new MEGA BEAST is built on your Ruger #1 base gun …

We add a new heavy duty 20 inch barrel and our own patented muzzle brake blush, add front and rear African express sights and engrave the sideplate with scenes of dangerous game. This version has a lot of engraving of dangerous game animals and scroll work. We add gold or silver bands to the barrel and the gun is then high polished and has our deluxe Black Chromex finish done to it. We finish the stock in an ebony finish and add a decelerator butt pad to it for more comfortable shooting.

The field grade rifle is pretty much the same but more of a working gun without the engraving and gold bands.
