Anyone ever own or handled one of their HighWall actions? I'm thinking about building an 1885 in .348Winchester. I once owned a worn out Winchester Mod-71 and, even though it was a long time ago, I have fond memories of that cartridge. Knocked hell outa stuff. I've handled a C-Sharps LowWall and it was as crunchy as a new Winchester production gun. I don't know of any others that make these old single shot actions and would like to know if anyone has any experience with MVA. Thanks... Bart

MVA is good as it gets. $1500, give or take depending on trigger choices, is the starting point for one of their actions for a custom build. Typically loooong wait times for a complete action, but very much worth the wait. If you're so old as to be not buying green bananas anymore long lead times would be a consideration!
In all my High Wall projects and usage I've stuck with vintage originals. Donor guns for their actions have been cheaper than MVA's, but on the other hand I'm into the cartridges that were commonly originally chambered in them. Strong enough for a .348? Yes I would say so, as long as it's not a whomped up one. Winchester did work up a couple in .30-06 toward the end of their run, and a helluva lot of .30-40's. Don't forget also that the HW was the darling of the wild eyed wildcatters in the 30's-40's who stuffed a lot of .219 Donaldson Wasps in them and then proceeded to chase the velocity demon.
My first thought was "why not re-barrel a Winchester/Browning Miroku 1885-copy?" I never heard of one being "crunchy", and I've seen, handled, shot, and owned a varied bunch of them.

I don't particularly like working on the Miroku actions. They are a pain to get back together sometimes and the triggers ain't my favorite either. I like the older design better. I have a C Sharps Low Wall action but that won't work. I'm glad to know that the MVA High Wall actions are as good as it gets.Thanks... And if I ate bananas,I could chance the green ones...
