Looking for something heavier than the Hornady 110gr. v-max, ?
Something that will dump all of the energy into a smallish critter. Anybody used the 150gr. Sierra Varmint HP ?

Speer 125 or 130 JHPs should work just fine.

125 grain Ballistic Tip. Been a while .. I was using H450 to launch them. They were absolutely hell on jackrabbits.
You might have to back off of max loads to keep them from disintegrating before arrival but the Speer 125 grain TNT could be a good choice. Otherwise, Speer 130 is pretty good. I think I also used the (discontinued?) Hornady 130 grain Single Shot Pistol bullet.
I don't think any of these are truly long range varmint bullets. Relatively low BCs. The Nosler 125s are the least bad. Even the worst (I've used the speer 110 grain flat point hollow point in '06 and .300 a little bit) are wicked fun for the first 100 yards or a bit more and really fun at 25. Pa-whopppp .. then duck to avoid falling pieces.
Anyone who thinks there's two sides to everything hasn't met a Mbius strip.

The Sierra 125 tipped Match King is a good one. The Nosler 125BTips are even better.

125 gr. Nosler BTBT. I shot them on coyotes from a 28.5 " .300 WM for several years. Excellent job. Not fur friendly bysure killers. That is the way to go if you are concerned about safety. The 150s and 165s are great to if safety is not a concern.

Cool. I had good friends in the Romeny area. Was great deer hunting, now you can hardly fill one buck tag. So sad. Beautiful state. My cousin has a place in Bath Co. Va. l Have driven though that area beautiful. She was not there at the time. Too bad it is so far from home.

Still decent deer hunting there . Bath Co is a nice area too , might be heading through there this weekend to go fishing.

Thanks for the ideas, I figured any lightweight cup&core bullet would work.
Would the Hornady Sub-X 175 & 190gr. bullets be really frangible?

Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.

East coast coyotes aren't really worth messing with in my opinion, even if shot with fur friendly calibers. But yeah that one is past sewing up.

I wouldn't sew it up if tanned, it would make the pelt 'interesting'.

A guy on LongRangeHunting site used a 30'' barreled 300rum w/130gr. Barnes TTSX. Len made him stop posting pictures of the killed coyotes. Football size exits.

Would the Hornady Sub-X 175 & 190gr. bullets be really frangible I would imagine so, especially considering they were designed for .300 BO speeds. I have to ask though, as a coyote/smaller critter bullet, why bother with the more expensive stuff? Results with anything between a 110-130gr bullet will be more than impressive, and I doubt you would see any realistic difference. I'd go with whatever I could find the cheapest, that also shot well in the rifle.
