Going through a bunch of stuff today and found something very cool that I totally forgot I even had. Its a Marble's no. 170, Auxillary Cartridge. Kinda neat. Its a small steel tube insert in a sealed plastic bag with an orange and white Marble's card with a moose on the front. The back gives the specs and states it is for use in the .250-3000 Savage High Power Rifle with .25 Colt Automatic pistol cartridges. I assume you pop this thing in and it turns your 99 in 250 into a 99 in 25 ACP. Anyone else seen these? Tried one out? I'm not planning on selling it OR using but I found it quite interesting. Any idea what the value of something like this might be?
Yup, got a couple of them. One I was gifted to me by an old fella at the gun club who knew I liked 250 stuff, the other I picked up here from Phil a few years back.
Handy to have in your pocket when you want to dispatch some critter but you don't want the noise of a 250-3000 "Hi-Power" going off ie. a deer caught in a fence, along side a road across from a private house pre se.
Value? Priced around $30-35, IIRC.
Another handy item to have on your person is a Marbles 250-3000 case extractor.

I have several of the Marble's auxiliary cartridges, but have only found that the .30 caliber adapters for the .32 S&W in the 303 SAV, #153, and 30-40 KRAG, #155, worked very well. None of the other Marble's adapters that I've tried have worked nearly as well.
I collect and use these adaptors. The 25ACP X 250 Savage is one I have. Unfortunately, the accuracy is so poor it is useless. Could not use it accurately at 10 yards. I have other adapters that are useful. Often use my 32 ACP X 30/06 to finish off big game and shoot grouse and rabbits. Accuracy is 1 1/2" groups at 25 yards and hits 1" low and 1 1/2" to the right. Plenty good for rabbits and grouse.
Hit a local gunshow last weekend, and an ammo collector I've bought a bunch of singles off of had a bunch of adapters for sale. Looked through but didn't see any for the Savage cartridges, tho some were unmarked. I've got a couple, never shot any of them. Mainly because I hate to buy a box of 25ACP just to try out the adapter.

I too started accumulating them, for all shapes and sizes not just Savage chamberings. One I like is the .22HP/.22LR adapter which works so-so accuracy wise but I like it for its clever design. You won't win a smallbore match with one. Favorite one though is the .30-06/.32S&W adapter, marked as made by Winchester. It actually is pretty accurate - very much half dollar accuracy at 40 feet. Probably due to the fat .313" diameter soft lead slug which willingly conforms to the jiggly-ness of the adapter and the .308" rifle bore. I gave away a Marble's .300 Savage/.32ACP adapter as a door prize at last year's Noxen Rendezvous.

These were invented by James Brayton the inventor of the Brayton Tubeless Scope that Savage Arms marketed & manufactured about 1905. The earliest adapters had the outside made of brass with steel insides and were probably not made by Marble's, I've only seen these brass ones for the 303 Savage (maybe he originally tried to interest Savage in making them?). The early Marble's packages label them Marble's-Brayton Adapters.

EDITED, I forgot to add that there was a #156, for 30-40US using 32 Colt New Police. I once had a #171 for 250-3000 using a Steven 25 SHORT rimfire, those also are .251 bullets.
I have adaptors of different makes and calibers. Mixed results. Many like the 32 ACP to various 30 caliber high power rounds usually have under 2" groups at 25 yards are quite handy. Have not tried my 380 ACP X 35 Remington yet but expect good results considering bore diameters are the same. My 45/70 x 45 ACP gave only limited success. The worse of the lot is the previously mentioned 25ACP X 250 Savage.
That was the philosophy of the ammunition manufactures in the early 1900's. Most loaded a very weak loading of a light lead bullet and minimal powder charges. Either called a gallery load or a miniature load. I downloaded for years but it usually required enough powder to make a decent report. The 32ACP X 308 Win or 30/06 make almost no noise at all. Very quiet. I have cronographed enough to know most factory 32 ACP from a longer barrel generates @1150 to 1200 fps. I have tried various hollow point ammo, and all gave excellent expansion on recovered bullets taken from actual game animals.
