Johnson said it was a "police action" to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy nor Eisenhower sent troops over there, just advisors. When 500,000 troops are in a country fighting, that is not a police action, it is an undeclared war. Because it was a full blown undeclared war with a lot of troops, that had to be drafted, it caused a huge anti war movement. The drafting part was not done right. Senators and Representatives sons were not drafted. At first neither were full time college students. This caused a class struggle and triggered much of the anti war movement. The federal government can get out of control. It is too big with too much bureaucracy.

We don't need any more pro constitution, pro American, pro 2 A, public figures,who aren't afraid to say what needs to be said.......we have enough now.

Why should a citizen be forced to fight for the defense of a foreign unknown country half way around the world? I could see a draft to defend our country from military invasion (actually I doubt a draft would be necessary as most would volunteer) but to use conscription to fight for "freedom" in a foreign land? F uck that globalist bulls hit.

That's what's wrong with this country. The Military industrial complex has been calling the shots since Korea because war is big business. I too think the draft should disappear and be replaced with: Every 18-year-old male, or male high school graduate should upon reaching eligibility serve for 2 years of military service.

The US was capable of destroying the economy of North Viet Nam and choking the fight out of them but fought a war with borders instead. The money makers in government didn’t fight to win they fought to not lose. So we lost. Lost lives. Real lives of real young people that should never have been in a jungle another world away. And the lives of those who sided with us there. A war not fought to win and minimize our own casualties is a war not worth fighting. And we still dance around the edges today.

Involuntary service is a terrible idea as we learned in the late 60s. The troops even started killing their own officers back then. What do you think would happen now?
