Anyone own one of these? Worth the weight size? What Zeiss, Leupold etc would it be comparable with?

Sounds like a good piece of late evening glass I would give a shout out to Ramblin99 He is as close to me as a late evening scope guru (lol I’ve bought a few from him) he may have first hand experience with one

A friend has one. It is a very good late evening scope.
He also has the Leupold VX 5 with illuminated reticle.
To his eyes they are comparable. To me the Meopta is better. Every eye is different.

The Meopta MeoStar 3-12x56 has very good glass and is easily capable of twilight hunting. But the choice of reticle here is important. They don't offer a "German #4 illuminated"" as in your title but do have the 4-C, 4-K, BDC-2, BDC-3, etc.

The 4-C in the R1r has a dot that covers about 2 MOA at 100 yards. Some like that, but I do not. For one, with that much surface area, in the lowest of light it will negatively impact your vision simply because the illumination doesn't dial down all that low.

The 4-K illuminates the center "+."

I prefer the BDC-2 and 3 series simply because the dot is MUCH smaller than the 4-C in the R1r. The reticle style on those is somewhat of a 4-A, and only the dot illuminates. On the flip side, the center wires are thin and sometimes hard to see against a darker target. So if for some reason you lose the illumination, you just might lose the shot opportunity.

But the glass is very good, and the scope is ruggedly built and reliable.

Bobby
Your correct. His is the 4C. He has made some very late evening shot on hogs with it.

I have 2 of these and I really like them, especially for low light. My only "complaint" if you will, is that the dot is a little on the large on the reticle but I don't feel it effects me from shooting an animal or from shooting accurately. If you know where there is one for sale and you aren't going to buy it please let me know.

I will defer to BobbyTomek every time. If I'm a guru, Bobby is the monk at the top of the mountain. Ha.
