Bobby Bare had a unique "style".
He's alot like Tom T. Hall in that he likes to "tell a story".
My favorite Bobby Bare is "New York City Snow"

"I was learnin' how to fly
When I left Bossier City..."

Like Hall, sometimes Bare's stories didn't have a happy ending.

Now unlike the thread about The Highwaymen, if you’re gonna tell me that Bare was a dopey or a wife beating sleaze, please let it go!😀
I like Bobby Bare!😀
The Mermaid
Unfortunately, it is a fact of life, that some freakin people can’t be happy unless they’re making somebody else feel miserable!😟
Okay. Start pitching stones!😀

I'm a Songwriter geek and love artists that so perfectly pair with the genius of the written lyric.

The great Shel Silverstein was to Bobby Bare what Bob McDill was to Don Williams and Dean Dillon to George Strait.

Just in this thread Shel wrote or co-wrote:

The Mermaid
Tequila Sheila
Marie LaVeau
Numbers
The Winner
Singin' In the Kitchen

Good stuff!

I like the mermaid a lot but this is my favorite another big hit from the same song writer who gave us A Boy Named Sue, Shel Silverstein:
