By far my favorite 300WM varmint bullet is the Berger 210gr VLD, have shot many Rock Chucks past 1000yds with it and quite a few coyotes past 500yds with it, wont ever shoot big game with them again. this bullet is just too frangible but the most accurate bullet I have ever shot through my 300WM

Shot a big sow in a feeder pen with a 140 Berger out of a 264 Win mag. She went down, but a few minutes later got back up, went back to eating corn. Had a big bloody spot on her left shoulder. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it. That feeder was about 70 yards from my deer stand.

I borrowed a 300 WSM load from a 1,000 yard benchrest guy - using the 210 Berger VLD and H 4350... My goodness.... That thing is ACCURATE! Never did shoot any game with it.

That's a 100 yard group, off a bipod from one of the "controlled round push feed" Winchester Model 70 Coyote rifles.

I always enjoy the 200-grain bullet in my 300 Win. Mag. It gets the job done big or small.

VLD hunting or target?
Probably 'hunting' they supposedly have a thinner jacket.

My experience with Bergers on game is one 80-90lb. pig - 280AI 180gr. Hybrid massive damage through the front shoulder- it bruised half of the backstrap.

Berger bullets have out-shot every brand. 55gr. match/target - 22-250, 130gr. OTM 6.5x47, and the 180 mentioned.
Folks on SnipersHide say the Lapua Scenar quite often out-shoots the Bergers.
I'm going to get some 220gr. scenar .308''.

Got my first 300 Win Mag, a Ruger 77, about 40 years ago. Didn't hunt much with it, I was busy being a Marine. But I did handload for it and it really seemed to like those 200 gr Sierra SPBT's. I felt like I'd found one heck of a combo with that, and that the magnum deserved a 200 gr bullet.

The Berger 210gr VLD's I have were pre "hunting or target". It was when Berger first came out with them, For sure closer to the Hunting bullets of today.
Opinion's vary on the Lapua Scenar 220gr, a fine bullet for sure but not a varmint bullet at all, very tough skinned

Troutnut you truly scattered that ones' chit. It is also a perfect example of overkill which I found that the 300 RUM to be really good at on both ends..mb

I used a lot of Speer 125 gr TNT in the 300 Win at 2300 fps when my 13 year old son was learning to shoot his new rifle.

I knew a few guys who used them on deer from a 30-30 or 30-06.

I burned hundreds and hundreds of the Speer 110 gr Varminter through my '06 at 2200 fps. With a reduced load of H4895, it would work well in the 300 as well.

As would the Speer 130 gr HP. It should run well at full velocity with IMR 3031.
