If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

it will be like World War -1 , when the first used airplanes .first it was only used as observation , then they dropped hand held bombs ,then the pilots shot at each other with hand guns ,then they added machine guns and made fighters to shoot down the bombers and observation planes .that coming next in the drone wars.. small fighter drones to shoot down the bombers

Time to issue 12 gauge pump shotguns loaded with #4 shot. 100 yards up? If you watch videos of these simple drones dropping grenades and bombs, the drop time is almost always around 3 seconds which would put them around 100ā AGL. They are slow moving or stationary when dropping their payload. The FPV drones are also relatively slow, and many times before a soldier is hit they try to throw rifles, sticks, water bottles etc at the drone. A shotgun makes a whole lot of sense. Iād take a 1 1/8 load of magnum 4 shot with a IC or LM choke. Each small unit should have a shotgun guy in this scenario. That individual could also carry buckshot and slugs to make the shotgun more capable for personnel in addition to drones. Would be a great trench gun, which is also very common right now in Ukraine.

Not enough pattern density at 100 yards.

The FPV drones are also relatively slow, and many times before a soldier is hit they try to throw rifles, sticks, water bottles etc at the drone. You see them dropping payloads from 100' in situations where the operators know they are nearly invulnerable from that distance. They can and do drop from 300'+. Likewise with the FPV videos. They chase guys around because they know they can, and for the lulz. Even the commodity FPV drones can do 50 MPH and the more expensive off the shelf ones do 80.

With todays techonology one might think a 10 or even 8 gauge with reduced recoil could be developed. Osky

I don't mind personally. That drone attack in the movie "Olympus Has Fallen" has always been fascinating to me.

Drone operators have short life expectancy if they get the least bit lazy. Their radio signals can be traced back to their location immediately if they do. Russia , and Iran, have integrated swarm technology where a whole flock of these vicious little falcons can communicate back and forth to adapt to changing situations. What's the right amount of lead with a shotgun on a 50 mile an hour drone?

Not enough pattern density at 100 yards. Agree. Goose loads would seem more appropriate. kwg

Every time I see one of those drone "fireworks" displays, can't help thinking, "Boy, I could really f^ck that thing up."
