I think someone could make some cash selling 5.56 or 5.45 loaded with shot.

Agree. Goose loads would seem more appropriate.

How about a round developed with small pointed lead projectiles coming out in line with the target.
Special wad to get it done maybe.
Where’s the Barney guy from Wyoming on this?

The company that I worked for (see above) was in a U.S. military trial where they were to shoot down a drone. As I've mentioned before the other product line we had was a weapon stabilization system. One of the standard mounts was for an M240.

Don't know all the details about the competitors.

However I do know that only our systems was capable of reliably shooting them down was the stabilized M240 with a DBSNA attached to it. Jam the drone to get it to hover and then blast it out of the sky.

You guys thinking that goose guns and shot shells out of a rifle are are going to reliably disable a drone coming in at you are kidding yourselves. You don't think that the Ukes and Russians don't have shotguns?

Saw a video once where a drone that was like a flying 38 would be able to identify an enemy and buzz into the forehead taking the enemy out. With quantum computing and doubling computer power every eight years we will soon see hoards of insect size flying through the door cracks. Not really a great thought for the future.

As im sure we have pretty extreme tech, what do we have to reliably counter drones on the battlefield? Anyone know?

I've been thinking this for a while. A good load of tss in a flight stopper or other specialized wad. The government should be doing some major research into shotgunning and other defenses against small drones. They're are a permanent part of war now.

I was thinking about the 22 lr machine gun Dick Casull and the guys at freedom arms built years ago. I saw one when I was about 14 and it had an incredible rate of speed. 4 of those on a motorized radar guided small system could take care of drones out to 300 yards pretty easy. Like the mini guns on ships but light weight for a squad to carry into battle and set up.

That 22 was called an American 180 or something. It looked like a lewis gun. It needs to be a small round so troops can carry a bunch in. A centerfire might be more reliable but that's why I'd what 4 separate guns on one guidance system rather than 1 mini gun. Maybe fn 5.7 or the hk 4.6 round or similar max.

Thanks... that was very informative...

I did a bit more research and the 22 was an American 180. It was an improved version of a casull designed gun. At some point someone made a quad barreled version that could fire between 3000-12,000 rounds a minute. In the 70s the American 180 was marketed to law enforcement as a crowd control gun. Might be fun to build a smaller one and mount it on a drone.

You see them dropping payloads from 100' in situations where the operators know they are nearly invulnerable from that distance. They can and do drop from 300'+.

Likewise with the FPV videos. They chase guys around because they know they can, and for the lulz. Even the commodity FPV drones can do 50 MPH and the more expensive off the shelf ones do 80.

And a dove can do 60 mph. That doesn’t stop me from knocking them out of the sky at 50-60 yards and a pretty regular basis.

Go watch these videos of drones dropping munitions. The 3 seconds I mentioned is almost a given. I have seen them drop from higher, and accuracy seems to suffer as wind has more time to blow the bomb off course.

Likely the best drone defense will be disrupting their positioning, communication, and target detection systems. As to GPS guidance, we presently have the US, China, Russia, and EU arrays. The powers are constantly working on jamming detection and communication methods.

That people like you draw a corollary between dove hunting and shooting down drones, is just more evidence that you are in so far over your heads Amazon would have to ship you daylight.

It’s embarrassing that a site that is mostly white men that have hunting and shooting experience are this gullible towards realistic combat tactics.

Oh well...on the plus side we now know why most of us despise gamers.
