I remember when that came out, but I don't think it was ever implemented. The story and video is from March of 2023.

Meanwhile, ebt users just have their cigarettes and beer rang up under "groceries" at the corner gas station.

Now it is being reported on Fox that credit card companies may track these purchases in California. It was scuttled last year for the rest of the country, but now it is coming back up for California specifically. Go figure.

I think I'll use my Costco (Citi) rebate to buy a new gun.

I believe Texas made that illegal, and a handful of other states have done the same.

Please correct me if I am mistaken.
I thought the code only indicated that the retailer was a purveyor of sporting goods. For instance, Sportsman's Warehouse purchases are coded as such. But the code does not indicate whether the item purchased is a scope, a handgun, a rifle, shoes, coat, or an ATV.
Again, correct me if wrong.

Again, correct me if wrong. I believe there is a specific MCC code for firearms and ammunition stores/purchases. I am not sure what it is, but that is what they are referring to.

It's a year old story and none of the proposal went into effect, but please continue debating fake news.

So, again, it is a code to identify the retail establishment? Rather than a code to identify the specific item purchased?

So, again, it is a code to identify the retail establishment? Rather than a code to identify the specific item purchased? The MCC code for Sporting Goods stores is 5941. The proposed MCC code for Firearm and Ammunition purchases was 5723. I am not sure if they will still use that code for California, but that is what it was when this was first published. It can be a code for the entire store or specific purchases. One of the issues was how to apply the code to purchases. For example: If someone bought a firearm and golf balls in the same payment transaction what happens? The merchants such as WalMart and others like BassPro or Cabelas were to use the 5723 code at their firearms terminals as I understood it.

This is not off the table Colorado is trying to pass the law as I type this. SB-24-066. It's already out of committee, and with the Dem supermajority it's a done deal. This means its registration, and they know just how much ammo and guns you will have. And of course where you live.

YOU ARE NOT AVOIDING THEM unless you've never purchased a hunting license in your life, never used a card to buy a scope, reloading supplies, ammo, or anything even tangentially related to shooting - for your entire life. If you've never logged onto a shooting/hunting forum, belonged to the NRA, GOA, USPSA, IDPA, PRS, NSCA etc - they know/assume you're armed and are on the list.
