They're illegal to shoot here. The natives say they're a sacred "spirit animal".

We had a doe on our lease for about 7 years that we could account for. She was FAT; head-on or tail-on, her body looked as fat as it was deep. One of the guys shot it and had the hide tanned.
There’s another that we saw this year. It’s not as distinct as the other with “socks” on the forelegs, white ears, and the white belly hair that comes up farther on the body.

I've seen a few in Virginia and Wva. Even a pretty wide 6 point once in muzzleloader season. Couldn't bring myself to shoot it. Old timers always said it was bad luck.

Buddy of mine shot a 10 point piebald in Maine one season. Everyone from around the area came to see it hanging on the pole. Two wardens came buy and thanked my buddy for removing him from the gene pool. Was an odd looking buck, big rack and a stunted body. Should have been over 200 lbs but barely hit 180.

gotta be a Q drop back in '17 or so about the tan will become white or something, no? Every time that deer takes a dump, it always contains 17 pellets. There's your Q drop.

I've seen a bunch here before. I had one hanging around the house for a couple of years until she got hit by a car. We had one at the farm where we hunt a few years ago. It was a 6 point. I told my son not to shoot it because it's bad mojo. He said BS, let that sucker come in range and it'll be bad mojo for him. The weird part about the deer in the OP is that it's spots are black and the tail is black. Maybe it's the picture, but it's almost as if it has melanistic characteristics. Not just a black deer, but a pie bald black deer. Check out the one from my house, she's brown and white, not black and white like the OP.

A navy buddy of mine got one with a crossbow in VA about 10 years ago. Not a big deer and normally he would have passed on one this small but we were doing a herd reduction hunt on one of the navy bases and they wanted as many deer killed as possible in the shortest amount of time. He had the hide tanned and put it on his coffee table. Pretty neat to see one in the flesh.
