As a response to a certain individual that claims to struggle with things like spelling, posting pictures and videos but then 3 or 4 posts later will do so without issue.

Obviously deliberate construction is for humor's sake. It has a place, but sparingly.

The more widespread lack of grammar and spelling knowledge is indicative of ignorance. People who cannot write are seen to be as muddle-headed as Kamala.

In my defense, Im posting often on my cell phone and I can’t see the keys very well and suffer from big fingers little key board. Autocorrect is also a pos and screws me up more often than makes things better. As for purposely spelling wrong, it’s just stupid and kind of irritating.

Sell. Sale. Sell. Sale. The amount of bumpkins who slept through school and can’t decipher the difference between wanting to “sell” something, and something that is for “sale” is in the thousands.

Correct spelling and punctuation are important. For example,

Woman without her man is useless.

Means the exact opposite of:

Woman, without her, man is useless.

I see this all the time on the internet. FB and Twitter have dozens of examples every day where the punctuation is deliberately done wrong to confuse readers. The title and 1st paragraph say one thing, but if you read the article to the end the conclusion is often the opposite of what the title states. Poople read the title but never get past the 1st paragraph if that far. The link is then shared and reshared thousands of times.

This is why so many people are 100% convinced that pure BS is true. After all they read it on the internet.

Most people don't really want the truth.

They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

A joke, if that's what it is, is way overused. I think it's more about just plain dumb and being too lazy to check spelling and grammar.

It's not funny that you're dumb.

We are all ignorant about some things, and I am no exception.

What I can't understand is those who showcase it, brag, wear it almost as a badge of honor.

I’m continually amazed how many people don’t seem to understand the meaning of the words they use. Stuff most people learn in elementary school.

Like:
Their, there & they’re.
An & and.
One & won.
Reel & real.
Probably & prolly. Prolly? That’s not even a real word.

There’s plenty more, but you get the idea.

Punctuation is important too, but often regularly omitted.

I had been calling it the incorrect pluralizing apostrophe. Then I was watching a British detective show and found out it already had a name.

My wife watches a bunch of them.

I can sometimes learn something if I can understand them.

I tell my wife I sure wish they would speak proper English on those shows.

If its me, I type fast and am usually in a hurry.

I just simply don't care on a forum or a text if its a bit wrong and in a hurry. Auto correct sometimes hops in too.

That said I get grumpy as heck when people muddle words on purpose like boolit. WTF. Same amount of letters. Whats the point.

At least spell check didn't like boolit. LOL.

While I strive for perfection, such is a rare event. I was in a publish or perish career generating 30 or 40 peer reviewed manuscripts and twice as many lay publications across the years. Each of the the technical documents went through at least 3 peer reviews, 2 or 3 associate editor reviews, and a senior editor read before acceptance. Last was a final look by a publication editor. Eventually my journal articles show up, and without fail, I always found at least one spelling or punctuation error therein. Inevitably, the source was my final submission.

Exchanges here are a bit more rapid fire, and while I'd like all to be proper, there's usually a slip up somewhere. Most, however, are a product of my fat fingers straying on the keyboard and a failure to proofread. If I catch those in time, there's always the "edit" feature. A review of my posts will reveal its frequent use (this example included).

In the past, we had a member that drafted every post in a thoroughly butchered "good ole boy dialogue." I'm sure his intention was entertainment, and such probably required three times more effort than normal text.

I tend to notice things like advise/advice, sell/sale, saw/seen and let them slide. We are, after all, not generating resumes here.

I think that some here believe that the epitome of conservative political behavior is the piss-ignorant drunken redneck. And I think that the way they post is merely another form of virtue signaling.

And some just act that way because they know it gets under someone else's skin. I don't even need the ignore feature for such examples. I can read right past them effortlessly.

I have resorted to the ignore feature for some, lately. It is, for me, reserved for those who have wished ill for, or death to others on the 'fire.

So, anyone can spell antidisestablishmentarianism, but what does it mean?

One of the biggest misuse of words is the word "got"
I've got lots of stuff to sell, We have got to many dumb asses on here,
You're using two words that have the same meaning. Drop the "got" and just use "have"
I have lots of stuff to sell, We have to many dumb asses on here
Think about it when you are talking too.

Lol. As long as I can understand them, I could care less about how somebody speaks, spells, or uses words in a sentence.

Ha. Yes, if I cannot understand them it is annoying. Deciphering Sticks ramblings comes to mind.

In all seriousness, I have been around people that literally could not read, could not look up a number in a phone book because they couldn't read the names, and also could not read out a tape measure in a normal way........for example would say 14 and 3 nicks.

The same person could build just about anything from scratch and when it was done looked and worked professional. So it sure isn't a indicator of intelligence.

Perhaps they are simply adherents to the tenets of that august, and alas defunct movement, the SSB? Sure, that's it. They are really historians who believe, like Andrew Carnegie and Theodore Roosevelt did, that the english language uses too many words spelled in ways unlike how they sound and we must simply be educated to follow this movement as educated Americans.

On second thought, disregard. Ignorance, feigned or actual, is likely more true. crazy

not you, but there are several here who are making that a standard thing with their posts these days. Really no big deal, but interesting that one started it, and now several feel the urge to participate. smile

Could be habit from forum participation. On some comment sections the words black, shoot or gay get flagged in an instant, so without thought you end up writing blakkk choote or gaiy

Disqus is the worst, and a lot of sites use them.

Did you ever think about auto incorrect, age ,or medical conditions. Me , I’ve had a stroke. I know that some times I don’t spell words right. But I can’t remember how to spell them. I know that my grammar is not what it used to be either. But I’m still here. If you want to make fun of me that’s fine.

Good question, brother. If words from random people online upset you, there’s probably much deeper issues involved .

I have never understood the lack of education being considered a manly virtue to be defended with vigor.

I think we sometimes post without crying for such, but rather hoping that our reply will help someone seeking information. Or, maybe hoping our post will merely prompt someone else to shut up or stop.

I honestly have a pìss poor memory.
Anything that I have to learn through memorizing is a struggle.
Except math.

Spelling, English rules...just do not stick.

And darn it, I sometimes just make mistakes.

I've always envied those who are perfect, and know everything.

The problem with people who think they know everything is that they really screw it up for those of us that do. whistle
