I have a 1957 99F. The stock has an unsightly (to my eye) previously repaired stock with no sling attachment posts.
I have acquired a crack free replacement rear stock and it has a sling swivel post installed. I would like to install a front swivel attachment but which one? One that shares the front stock screw, one that clamps on the barrel or other?
I believe (guess) this year/model probably did not come with sling posts but if it were to have been done close to post manufacture date what style would have been most likely used?
Thanks

As a stock factory offering I'd say you are correct, sling swivels were not installed. As an after market item they are common and, to me, don't detract too much from a well preserved 99. As for the front swivel, I prefer installing a stud in the screw hole over the barrel clamp, however both are just fine. As for swivels, I prefer the type most people refer to as "Model 70" swivels. You can make those work in the front swivel by rethreading the shaft of the swivel. I've did it before and always liked the the looks of the finished product.

If you wanted it to look as factory as possible, I'd use the sling eyes they put on the 99R's of that time frame.
I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.

If you already have a stock stud a barrel clamp for the front would be the easiest and safest to prevent drilling a hole in the forearm
