Guess I am getting to old also was thinking fox,or browning or Smith. How ever considering the cost and size of offroad vehicles in question I would just look up a old jeep cj5 , nor much difference in the size and it's street legal.
I was thinking a short bed 2 dr. pickup with 4 wheel drive. They are only about $10,000 more than a comparably equipped SXS and you can drive them on the interstates.

If I had to buy a SxS for whatever reason this thinking is what I would be thinking. As I've noted lots of areas we hunt a SxS is too wide to get anywhere. Hence the use of the ride on top Polaris 6 wheelers that are flat amazing off road.
If you could start the diesel in cold weather one of those small 3 cylinder diesel 4x4 trucks you see around would be cool too in a way.
Our old Suzuki Samurai isn't a bad one either.
But its all OT.
Can Am might be a better machine but they are wider on the ride on top versions than our Polaris and we are so used to what all to do maintenance wise I would hate to start the fleet over again LOL

Anything game wise the sxs are too wide for where we roam. Ride on top Polaris 6 wheelers will go anywhere and haul a heck of a load. I can haul a whole moose out less the guts.
I’ve had Honda, Polaris, Yamaha and can am. The can am is a cut above the rest for sure.
Note there are some I haven’t had and cannot comment on, they may be better?

I'm sure can am has improved but when I was researching, their frames were the weak spot. They couldn't handle the power/torque, produced, and cracked or flat out broke.

We bought a used base model Polaris 570 trail. Don't use it for hunting much, just joy riding in the summer and pushing a little snow in the winter. If the snow gets deep enough I use a tractor. Been very reliable. In these parts Polaris seems to far outnumber other brands. Seem to be reliable machines.
Polaris gets a bad rep for reliability, but there's also multiple times more Polaris machines out there IME. To me it makes sense that more would be needing repair, just by the vast numbers of the machines out there.
Several friends in SW Idaho use the piss out of their Polaris Rangers ranching and lion hunting, with no more issues than any other brand they've had. Quite often they'll put 100 miles on a day with full dog boxes, looking for lion tracks or running around doing whatever.
I've got a 570 mid sized Ranger I plow snow with and go on beer runs, but don't hunt off it much. Occasionally I'll use it to get 20 or so miles down a tractor trail to camp on a hunt and it has never left me wanting more. I don't rod the hell out of it though.
I'm a Yamaha guy and 1000% my search for a SxS for hunting/light play would be the Rmax. Was planning on getting one next month but some plans have changed - moving that to next year. I have a wedding to pay for lol.
That said - it's a lot that Yamaha will go a 10 YEAR warranty on their belts.
This. Yamaha doesn't have many (if any) competitors in reliability, IMO.
I’m a huge Yamaha fan (have owned 5 total), and would love to buy an Rmax4 as my next one… but no bed at all on the 4 seater?!? They screwed up on that! Has me looking at 4 seat Polaris Generals and Canned Ham Commanders …
