I love your photo essays.
However, doing the math, if Grandma is 93, and Momma is 80, that means Grandma had Momma at 13, which would have been in 1943, in the middle of the war. Yikes!!

Airi's mom was essentially orphaned at a young age and was born at the tail end of the war. Her grandfather on her father's side married the 93 year old woman seen, who is not Mrs. KG's real grandmother. Grandma and Mrs. KGs mom--and Mrs KG-- are in fact, not blood related, though they may as well be. She has been doting over and caring for Mrs. KG since she was born and is as much a mother to her as her real mother, and in some ways, moreso. As an aside, my 80 MIL has her whole life had nothing but respect and fondness for Americans. As a young girl in occupied Japan, the US servicemen were extremely kind and generous to a fault to her and the other children, who were obviously distressed and in many ways suffering from the ravages of war their government brought upon them. A highlight of an otherwise horrible time, as she's related to me, were kind young Americans gifting her Hershey bars, bubblegum and other sweets. I figured at least one person would catch the misspelling of the word 'caiman'. That was my word and I knew damned well it was incorrect as placed. I also knew my opponent, who's a great guy but a townie who I don't think has ever been out of state beyond NH and ME would very likely not know what a caiman is, or how to spell it. I was correct on both counts.  Thanks for the comments. We're headed for Lisbon in a couple days to play and eat killer Portuguese seafood and more and do whatever else that strikes our fancy. Hey Paul, safe travels and enjoy yourselves and being back spending quality time with your folks, mate. I'll be looking for food porn from you when you're back. Last thing: Roger buddy, I love ya and I hate to break it to you, but I see zero geishas in your future. Ever. Sorry, hombre. A man can dream, though...
