KYHillChick just finished our plans for flying to see honorable #3 son, Angus, perform at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow this summer.
Back in the fall, Angus said he was joining a bagpipe band in Battle Creek, Michigan. That's something like 6 hours from here by car. You have to have a serious need blow into a moldy spit-covered bag to drive that far, but he did. He filled up 2 2-inch ring binders with the sheet music they sent him. The band practices once a month, but it takes about 2 hours of practice a day to keep up. They aim to go to the WPBCs every two years and compete in the Grade 2 category. So that you know, a piper or a band starts at Grade 5 and works up.
I'll post a link for you when it gets closer. The WPBCs are broadcast live by the BBC and you can watch the whole thing from Glasgow live.
'HillChick and I are going to Glasgow for the WPBCs and then doing a few days in Edinburgh, Oban and London before flying back. Moose, Mooselette, and even Satan and Junior are coming over. After the WPBCs we're going to Edinburgh so Angus can see the Tattoo.
If you'll remember, Angus was the youngest member ever of the US's oldest pipe band, the Cincinnati Caledonians. He was the top-rated junior bagpiper east of the Misissippi back in 2011. He got active again after high school and now is Pipe Sargent of the 35th Indiana out of Lawrenceburg, Indiana (just next to Cincinnati)
