Drop dead gorgeous, but in a highly functional way; Karl is an artist in his own right & a peach of a guy.

I've been to his shop a couple of times during the course of some work he's done for me.

What does your new rifle weigh?

I had a 6.5/06 built over 20 years ago. If the Creedmoor was mainstream at the time I would have never done it. I haven't fired that rifle in a dozen years, I need to get it rebarreled to 270 or 30/06.

Mine was the twin of the OPs rifle only lefty. #2 Hart at 23". Setup to shoot Berger 140 VLD and that is all I ever shot in it. Killed a lot of critters. Kept the dies when I rebarreled to 6.5-284. May go back someday. Cartridge feeds like butter and was very accurate. 2900 fps with 140 vld will do a lot of things.

I built one on a 700 and ptg bottom metal. 26 inch no. 4 shilen select match.
Only bullet I ever shot was a berger 140 vld and 50.5 grains of 4350. Don't know how fast it was going but it was plenty.

Here's one of many whitetails I killed with that gun.

If the twist is tight enough you could make use of the newer 6.5mm projectile offerings and bring it out of retirement.

I agree and it is 1-8". I should never have rebarreled it to anything other than what it began life as, a 30/06. I was my very first deer rifle and it needs to be a 30/06 again. That was 40 some years ago and I've since hit the easy button on rifles, which means there are so many good choices in factory ammo for the 6.5 CM that I have no desire to mess with the 06 version thereof.

Creedmore will never equal a 6.5x06. But if running a single 06 case through your FL die and seating a bullet is too tough, then yea, I guess the need more is what you should have.🤪

I would maybe go as far as saying the 6.5x06 is the best of all the 30-06 case. I'm running a 280 right now and I can get it up where my 6.5 was, but certainly not beat it. If I needed more I'd run a 156 elite hunter and be right with my 280 and its 162 eldxs.
That 6.5x06 is a deer rifle, coyote rifle, elk rifle, target rifle, whatever. Probably the best all around performer of all time. My 4831 sc load was 55 grains and a 140. My bud had the improved version and ran the same charge. His clocked at 3170. It was 264 win mag stuff.

Nice blueprint. Hint.

I'm not a Wilson Guy,as they don't wear very well and will Copper Mine. As 264 Twat-Six goes,a guy could do worse, though the 280 remains King,if only because bullets matter more than headstamps. I set mine up for .796 BC 180 ELD Smooches at 3.585" COAL,for land chasin' in a 700. It also plays nice with .838 BC 190 Beer Cans. Hint.

Lotsa ass,for minimal recoil. Hint..................

Nice clean build.

I have owned 6.5x06 rifles since 1967. Mr Hodgdon and me have good taste, this cat was his favorite hunting rifle. My current 700 ADL in 6.5x06, it does 800 yard woodchucks, hogs deer and antelope. In anddition they anal equal a 24" factory 264 WM in performance, any way you want to measure it with actual equipment.

The 6.5x06 is exactly the same cartridge as the 6.5x284, so will do wonders with 85s through 160s with a 1-8 twist 26" would you like to see what happens to a chuck hit with an 85 doing 3,800 fps? I will red mist a 35 pound chuck. Makes two reports about the same volume. The 156 grain Cupronickel FMJ RN will go through a six foot in diameter spruce tree like butter.

I am a 6.5 kind of competition shooter, a few dozen of various makes, models and cartridge capacities.
This is the R 700 I built a few years ago, still shoots real well.

I agree it is not a 264 win mag, but it can come close for a .473 case. I ran the 264 for a little bit with the same 140s and re25. The 6.5x284 is an excellent cartridge as well, but I could never get the velocity from mine that I could my 6.5x06. Kinda strange as the same powder and the same bullet were being used and my 6.5x284 load was 53.5 grains and my 6.5x06 was 55. The 6.5x284 would clock at 2930 out of a CA ridgeline, whereas the shilen would do right at 3150. Wouldn't think a grain and a half would make much difference as they weren't that maxed out. I actually like the 6.5x248 design better, but just never thought that it was that great. Always thought a 260 improved or a 6.5x55 improved would be cool, but the 6.5x06 is a performer and is an easy wildcat. Unless you go the 270 brass route and trim your azz off....

Gotcha, that's standing on the 6.5-06 pretty good. The 264 is 3150-3200 with a 26" barrel. Cases lasted well at 3150?

We've actually ran them just as fast with 4350 and a 140. I locked my bolt down with 54.0 of 4350 and luckily got it open. My buddy worked all the way to 58 with sc and never had any problems. Only trouble we had was with 270 brass and necks splitting.
Retumbo and h1000 is also a good powder with a 140.

My primers would fall out of my loaded rounds bouncing around in the shell box of my pickup after 2 reloads with winchester brass. We started in with rp 30-06 and lake city 30-06. One pass through a FL, bump your shoulder a few thou so it'll chamber, load and shoot. We also used red dot and cream of wheat with canning wax to fire form our improved stuff but was often left with rounded shoulders.

His rifle was a model 70 and a 27 inch kreiger.
Mine was a 26 inch shilen on a 700. We ordered up 1000 bergers a piece and went through them all. I haven't really shot the rifle much after that.

I probably wouldn't challenge Stick on that but whatever. If I do another, and I must say grabbing Lapua 6.5-284 brass is pretty easy, it'd be a 6.5-270. Have Shaen work out the chamber for me and just neck down 270 with a false shoulder. I guess a guy could neck down 30-06 but if doing that I'd do the 280 Remington probably. Its a late winter night, the bourbon tastes good, and good luck to all future 6.5-06 owners. Its a great cartridge.

Kurt, what would be the difference between the 270 and 06 case? Ease of forming?

666 is a fair to middlin' platform and eats 147's expressly, with Lapooey Virgins and '26. Hint.

Here's a few the primers fell out of.
58 grains of 4831 in the improved case and 56 in the standard.
Smooching or whatever the hell stack calls it on the 6.5x06 at 3.470". The improved was a pusher model 70 and the standard was a rem 700. Both barrels as long as the smith could allow for cutting off the ends of no. 4s. These suckers are hot hot. Like I said, after 2 shots the brass would fail on the 3rd most of the time.
The ack would put 5 in a hole the size of a dime and the regular would stock 5 in a quarter.

264 wm was pushing 140 behind re-25 at 64.5 grains at a 3100ish. So yea, that 06 would keep pace.

You are a Lying Piece Of CLUELESS Fhuqking Schit. Hint.

It is simply fhuqking IMPOSSIBLE for a 264 Twat-Six to run with a 264 Win,at like pressures. That despite your wishing to extoll your Retardation,in the approach. Hint.

Such a nice guy....always look forward to you little rants. Kinda like your little bitch kreedmire keeping up with 284s and 06 capacity because your beer cans mean way more than headstamps. I never said it would beat a 264 wm, I said it was up with it or could merely keep stride for a bit. But your theory of bullets and headstamps stomps the powder volume ideology of more equals more. Your only defense is you've shot it all and then some and to accuse people of lying. Always look forward to your post.

I barely got 3200 out of a 264 WM. I had to burn 10 grains of powder more to gain the extra 75 over my standard 06. And you won't find a better combo in a .264 than re-25 and a berger. And yes, I said it, I busted 3100 with a 6.5x06 and a 140.

I can run a 270 win and a 130 about as fast as you could care too and make you scratch your head about why a 264 even exist.

I've loaded and chrono'd both and I have to disagree. The 6.5-06 is a pretty good AI round but P.O's magic can't compete with volume.
And since I don't have a "Sticktionary', I don't have a clue what Stick is say'n...

I guess instead of sleeping with a woman, you shove a 6.5-06 barrel up your ass?

Scott, have you ever been diagnosed with Tourette’s?

I didn't sheit on it, you started feeling all emotional about a cartridge. You even Pm'd me asking to buy mine and I told you know. I'm sure you've heard NO a lot in your lifetime. I didn't sheit on his rifle.

20 years ago, haven't shot it in 12 years, may rebarrel it to something else.......

Sounds like someone who may be interested in selling a rifle to me. Or maybe YOU needed that barrel for something you mentioned earlier? Get a life man.
