I hang my 261C by the handle pointing down at home and when transporting, it’s on its right (side cover side) side. Any other way it leaks……

Have you adjusted the oiler so it is at minimum feed when running?
Assuming it has an adjustable oiler.

If your saw doesn't leak a little bar oil you are probably not oiling your bar enough.

It won't leak if there is no oil in it.

I've got professional grade Huskies and Stihls both .. both leak bar oil when they set. God Every time I break one down for repairs I replace the oil hose, and quite often the oil pump. Age and use are not kind to chainsaws.

I'm sure that's true my newest Stihl 261 has leaked pretty much since new, I just kind of write it off to nature of the beast and know where I said it's going to have an oil spot under it..

Take it from someone who used to use one everyday for years, If your bar is being oiled correctly you will have some oil leakage. Just put a piece of cardboard under it.

A little research shows plugged vent that can create a vacuum plus other possible issues.

I have never had a Stihl that leaked oil. Almost all of my Husqvarna's leaked oil, except my current 395, for some reason never leaks.

My Echo is hit and miss. I think it only "leaks" when I overfill or spill shortly before I put the saw up. Oil on floor for a day or two then dry.

Side note to this chainsaw thread.
Last week I cut a horizontal cottonwood from the river bank. It tipped over 4-5 years ago about 30 yards upstream from one of our pump sites and we hope it will float out when the ice goes.
Anywhoo, one of the cracks in the wood had filled with blown sand and melted snow aka sand-ice and I totally smoked a chain. Resharpened it this afternoon and it was major F'd up.
Had I been using a Stihl this story never would have started.

Nice clean 026.
Got two of them here, both red levers with original jugs. Good handy power:weight saw.
