I have a model 70 featherweight (.308)inherited from my uncle. Im trying to figure out when it was made. The serial isn't msking sense with the info i'm finding. It has a G prefix followed by 5 digits, G5xxxx. All the G prefixes I'm finding info for online have more than 5 digits. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Maybe someone with more experience can help you. I think Winchester's serial numbers are a mess. With all the mergers and acquisitions, they changed the way they issued serial numbers about 3 times. Good luck.

Does anyone know the weight of Winchester 70 Featherweight or Lighteweight made in the 80's or 90's? Thanks They vary greatly because of wood density. The pre 64's may have even been more consistent in weight. Generally those weigh from 6.5 to 7 pounds bare. I've seen some newer (80's and 90's) featherweights weigh 7.5 pounds. If you are asking about the rifle in the OP, it probably weighs close to 7 pounds. The 5 digit classic stainless I have is a heavy pig, but it's a long action and weighs in the neighborhood of 7.5 pounds. It's not svelte like my '56 fwt.. The stock weight is the biggest influence in weight with the featherweight rifles.

I am surprised that the Blue Book overlooked that.
I am always looking for factory wood stocks!
