Can't wait for fresh fruit in the summer here. Informed my wife after tasting the crust on last night's chicken pot pie that she's under orders to make fruit pies this summer.
Jim, seems that chess pie is some sort of custard pie? Here's a song to go with it

Jim, make yourself a peanut butter pie. I don’t have a recipe . About 15 years ago I built a shop for a guy. He just got married and the wife was a great cook. That’s the first and only times I had peanut butter pie. She kept the pie in the fridge. Same crust as a cheesecake. I had the pie about 4 times during the job. If you try it, can you please let us know?? Alan
For some reason raspberry and whipped cream seem like the thing to do.
We planted two trees a handful of years ago in Idaho. First year after gave us more than enough for a pie, delicious it was. Zero thereafter so they have been pulled. Hard growing whether Idaho or Texas when we are in the wrong place at the right time.

One goes to a fundraiser tomorrow. The other one gets eaten or possibly dumped.
Chess pie.
Yes.
First time was while on vacation on the gulf coast. Had a piece of buttermilk chess pie. Was awesome. They had soe super strong coffee which went well with something so rich and sweet.
Dang good if you have a sweet tooth. Chess pie is similar to something great aunts in my family use to make, Transparent pie. Similar with eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla.
Remember why, specifically, the Bill of Rights was written...remember its purpose. It was written to limit the power of government over the individual.

In the way back wife use to make lemon chess pie. Haven't had it in a couple decades though.

I just remembered them the other day! Had to bake two. The grand twins got up in the morning and gobbled up the first and dispensed with all evidence. Baked me a minced meat one after that. Had to give it away. Wife's gone KETO diet. I changed my gender from fantasy airplane pilot to confectionery chef, French/German/Southern. It's me.....

Huh...a guy at work randomly mentioned peanut butter pie yesterday and I told him I had never heard of it.
Weird.

Cherry pie is also my favorite. My buddy has some cherry trees and his wife is a magnificent cook/baker. I'm not sure what strain of cherries come off their trees but they're significantly better for pie filling than canned cherries, quite a bit more tart. Every now and then she'll bake me a pie and I don't even share with the kids.
I can walk on water.......................but I do stagger a bit on alcohol.
The wife is known far and wide for her homemade cheese cakes topped with blueberry or cherry pie filling. Makes a mean egg custard and pecan pie too. My specialty is sweet tater pie. I like buttermilk chess pie too. I haven’t had any in a while. Y’all putting a sweet tooth craving on me - gonna up my blood sugar reading for a few days. Been craving a mincemeat but could never find the mincemeat at the grocery during the holidays. Got a fine rice pudding in the oven right now.

Thanksgiving reunions gathered all the distant aunts nobody could remember. Along with the closer generations, enormous tables were laden with the most fabulous down home cooking those women could whip up. It wasn't even an effort, just everyday recipes. So many pies, cakes, and candies it was impossible to try them all, especially with two or three of same in some varieties. Buttermilk chess was an unusual one that was always there. And the confusing mincemeat that contained no meat. I loved dewberry cobblers too. Berries picked while out rabbit hunting. And fresh peach cobbler right off the tree. American Pie!

I've been being patient through out this thread for someone to explain what the F chess pie is and nobody has.
Some of you say, "Oh I like chess pie. Just had it the other day har har har"
I bet you don't even know what it is either!
Don't even get me started on mincemeat...
Read it again. I stated it is siilar to pecan pie filling but more of a custard. Eggs, buttermilk sugar and vanilla are the main ingredients, as I recall.
