Got the 308 back out. Tuning a load but it is shooting consistent 5 shot groups. 8 to 15 mph wind today. Varget and 178 Eld X doing good.

Looking pretty dang good. You still need a better backer board though. Unless you shot a golf ball through there.. Now, shoot some 10 shot groups to confirm it. Looks like it will work out well though.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Thanks I shot this 5 shot group tonight. Barrel was heated after three rounds. 14.4 mils at 400 yds dinged a medium gong. Need to chrono still but 178 eld x is doing good things for me.

Looking pretty good Esox. I like how you are pretty centered up on that orange dot. I like those ragged holes. Good shooting!

Thanks Hammerdown and BSA ๐. I put some range time in for this load to ensure it's consistent. I think it's a winner. I believe it will shoot even better if I let it cool after 3rd shot.

Correct. 0 was 100 yds.

How far was POI below POA on the 400 yard gong? +1.4 mils is closer to a 300 yard come up.

I was holding dead center on it? Couldn't see hit but I'm guessing bottom 1/3 of plate. I still need to do my dope for this gun and load. I am also learning mil. I took 3.6x 400 yds divided by 100. Which gave me 14.4 or 1.4 mils?

The first thing to do is quit thinking in inches of drop. Generate your initial dope sheet from the MV of your load, its BC, the height of the scope centerline above the bore, and the zero distance. Then its as simple as range the target, look at the dope for how many mils of up, then dial and shoot.

Thanks for the guidance. What software do you use for dope?

I'm a casual user, so I don't have all the apps on my phone. I use the free calculator on the Hornady website.

Thanks for the guidance. What software do you use for dope? Doesn't matter what app you use always need to confirm at the max distance you plan to shoot and with the exact same range finder, there not all the same.

Definitely will be using and verifying before attempting any shots over 300 yds.
