I have a friend who loves the 6mmBR I put together for him and is accurate with it as well.
He wants to hunt deer with it next Fall, and asked me about bullets .
I have never hunted with a 6mmBR, so am asking what the hunters here use.
The rifle is very accurate with 105 and 108 Scenars and Hornadys and 38
30 gains of Varget or 29.5 grains of H4895

Not knowing the twist - my son's killed deer very well with the 105 Amax in .243. 6mm bullet moving at decent speed, I can't imagine 6BR not being as effective. I think the 103 ELD-X be the current choice?

Purely from research as I’ve been doing it for my new 6 ARC. 95 BT if it’s a little slower twisted and 108 ELD-M if it’s twisted fast seem to be the top choices with the Sierra 85 grain HPBT gameking a honorable mention.

Thanks, guys. The gun has a 26"1:8 Shilen on it, I have shot it accurately out to 900 meters with several different brands of 105 and 108 bullet.

I've used the 105 berger vld, 105 hornady amax and hpbt out of my 6br on whitetail with great success.

Be careful of the 105 scenar, they are very stout and take a little while to upset, especially at 6br speeds

Yeah I shot one deer with a 105gr scenar. Results left me with the impression I was gonna need to keep shots close at 6br velocity

Whereas the 108gr eld-m is an awesome bullet.

Antelopes to elk.. keep shots inside of 600 and keep ur knife sharp.

I’m a huge fan of the cartridge and 108gr eld-m. It’s all I use nowadays. No fuss. No recoil. Massive damage on animals.. I’m a homer for it.

I need to try some 110 atips at some point. With a case full of lever it should have a lot of legs and reach.

If you haven't already, have a look at the 100 grain Cayuga solid from Patriot Valley arms, I've used it in my 6GT and 6ARC. Extremely accurate and easy to load, and its performed well on deer sized game out to 1000 for me.

I've killed a pile of critters big and small with the Berger 105 hybrid. Excellent on game performance. 1:8 twist barrel. I shot my antelope at 460 yds this fall. He made it about 3 steps. We have killed lots of deer with it.It causes quite a bit of blood shot, but you don't have to track very far. Shooting a fast twist 243@ about 3000fps.

Ahhhhh yes. I seem to recall the last time I opened one of your posts/links - the eyes and ears here may have declined with a little tread off the tires, but the memory is still solid. If you've got a brand name that's memorable, being a douche bag doesn't help the brand. wink

6BR is my favorite cartridge to punch paper with and yes the 6BR sure does shoot great groups at 100 yds. out to 1,000 yds. , i don`t care to follow blood trails much myself anymore i like the DRT . i know people that use the 6 BR because of their recoil shy problem but i wonder if on a bigger buck do they always find those bucks ? my 11yr. old grandson is also a little recoil shy so he uses a 257 Roberts with a 75 gr. bullet that shoots 3400-3500 FPS i even wonder about that being enough ? maybe these smaller cartridge rifles are the way to go ? my rifle shoots a 100 gr. bullet 3700 FPS but those bucks are always DRT out too 300 yards and sometimes even farther when out west. i hope more hunters on here post more info on their kills with these smaller cartridge rifles. Importing bullets into Canada is a nogo for me,
And my friend wants to concentrate on the 6mmBR next fall because hs is more accurate with it than his 7 mag.

I’m certain he’ll be just fine with the setup. The 6BR is quite accurate and easy to shoot and many of a big game animal has been cleanly killed with a 6mm. Not sure what is available to you in Alberta but a Hornady ELDX will work just fine for deer. I’m not big on mono metal bullets outside of Hammer bullets especially if you won’t be running them at high velocities. I have zero experience with the patriot valley so I can’t speak on their effectiveness. The Hammer bullets are designed differently and deliver more traumatic effect on game than Barnes do. If I HAD to run an all copper, non tox mono metal it would be a Hammer bullet. Weatherby loads them in their line of ammunition and they report excellent performance in both accuracy and lethality. Hammer has a lower velocity listed in their performance window. I believe down to 1600 fps with some of their options.

I’ve killed a few dozen deer with the 105 hybrid. Zero complaints. Also shot several with 70BT’s and it works way better than it should. Bang flops deer amazingly well. Personally I’d like to try the 90AB.
