My 'Boy' is 19 now and has let his lacrosse hair bleed over into adulthood. As an apprentice, he takes a lot of schitt for it from the guys.
You're welcome to come here and say something similar to him.

Left foot forward Right foot back. Just enough to get oblique and not squared to tgt. Not over exaggerated stance per that. Maybe 4 to 6 inches at most right toe behind left toe. Natural hip wide spacing of feet. Enough to get body oblique to tgt and allow aiming and pointing over strong arm only.
Body kinda oblique towards target with left side a little more forward than right. Hard to explain in writing But easy to do in person, especially with a young person wanting to learn and shoot. Strong arm orientated towards tgt pointkng and aiming over its plane thru sights from the right side body being rear oblique. Weak arm very slight bend to allow Strong arm forward thrust. And a little forward lean from waist up (not over exaggerated )
He needs to get rid of the body squared to target and leaned back mode.
Once he gains muscle memory of body stance it will become 2nd nature.
His striker fired pistol grip per his hands actually ( "glock grip") looks good from what can be seen. Have to get upclose and personal to really see it and show corrections if needed. He might not have enough counter opposing force in his weak hand versus his strong hand forward force in his grip and the glock was biting him per the trigger guard. Dunno.... Wasn't their watching him shoot standing on left side about 3 ft from him. Or his lower 3 fingers per stong hand on grip were loosening up per more shots than intial ones. Or might not have enough meat per his weak hand fill8ng in the grip on open left side of it that his strong hand can't cover nor ever will. Grip is why his shots were going all over and the stance being poor form
But he also doesn't have adult size hands yet.
Dry fire practice will help him with stance, grip, sight picture, trigger squeeze and muscle memory overall.

Jim, Really? You made the poor kid shoot a Glock? Probably scarred him for life. Borderline child abuse that’s what that is!

Great post !!!! that's how I've always shot pistols(of all brands, semi or revolver)....I always thought it was called the "Weaver Stance"....but I certainly could be wrong about that. I have 4 Sigs, 9's & 40's, and can shoot lights out to 20 yards with them....love em, no strikers in my Sig family tho.

Tried a 365 but I prefer my 239 for carry. I had a 320 for a while, absolutely great fit and ergonomics, couldn't get past the unintentional discharge issue whether true or not. In addition to the 239 I have two 226's a US made one that wears a .22RF conversion and a West German produced model in 9mm.
I hate to step in a pile of someone elses advice, but Ive been in the pistol shooting game for 35 years competitively, so its hard to bite my tongue sometimes. I would advise almost opposite, I use and teach the squared up technique, toes forward, feet as close to possible at shoulder width, no bent arms, not arrow straight, but no weaver type bending of support hand arm, both of equal bend, slight lean forward, nose over toes with very firm grip on handgun and go to shooting. Shooting should be with purpose, but the stance should be comfortable not wound up tight, face the target just like your talking to someone, head up not down between your shoulders like a turtle or tilting, just natrual. I almost hate to click the post reply button, I just couldn't hep myself.

It's almost hilarious how tone deaf you are, but taking your words at face value I'll say this... There is nothing wrong with hair length on ANY kid or adult, and your sick mental masturbation, again as a concern troll, is inept at best.
I'm no acquaintance to Jim, as we differ greatly in many areas, but the fact that you've championed degeneracy for years around here, and yet attempt to be 'conservative' tonight about a kid's hair is either fookin' hilariously ironic or a cognitive issue to the byedin level. You only wish for the child to be as perverse as you, so you may prey upon...as your mentors did to you.

You're spot on, that's good advice and there are plenty of good instructional videos around to get a good visual of what that looks like. Jim, great job taking the young man out and letting him experience several guns and form an opinion of his own. The 365 is a great choice, he has good taste in a working carry gun. It's great to see a young man doing man stuff.

My advice? Let the young man just shoot whatever he likes. Sure I'd like to see him with a 1911 in 9mm but if he's a Sigster so be it. As far as ol'tarqueen...your in Idaho I understand they have mountains there go play in a rockslide naked covered in chicken livers.
Bangflop! another skinning job due to .260 and proper shot placement.

Jag That's exactly what I was thinking I had long hair when I was younger, so what ? There are far worse things in the world today, than a kid hanging out with the ole' man, shooting guns, and having fun.
The Weaver stance is a highly regarded method of shooting, make sure of eye dominance first then follow Rene's advice. I shoot out to 80 yds. with my large bore pistols, and it's a very repeatable yet simple system for shooting.

Well, that kid plainly knows he’s got a cool Dad 😎
A good start with the Sig but plain as day what he really needs is a horse and a brace of 1860 Colts, he prob’ly swore to not cut his hair until the war was won. You guys need to work on a backwoods Missoura drawl too.

Jim; Top of the morning to you, I hope this St. Patrick's Sunday finds you and your fine family well.
Thanks for the video, like so many of yours, I don't always comment but they do make me smile.
Regarding the backstop on your range Jim, I'll share a quick story if I might.
After we'd moved to BC where many of us are crammed into the valleys, I was telling someone about where we shot in Saskatchewan.
When they asked me what I used for a backstop on said range, I said, "Well, Saskatchewan...."
Then I explained that besides the farm house across the road I didn't have anything on the place that was capable of hitting the next closest neighbor.
It's tough for folks who've never been, to grasp truly how much space is out on the prairies on both sides of the medicine line.
Great to see him becoming proficient with a pistol for sure though Jim.
Best to you all with the calving and lambing coming on.

Do it man!!!
Had an Italian copy for awhile myself for the exact same reason.
Tried to chew tobacco as well after watching it one too many times.
That worked out much less well for me than the Italian Walker.
" The weaver stance is a highly regarded shooting method" Man, I don't know what shooting discipline you've been involved in, but I haven't seen a serious pistol or revolver shooter using the weaver stance since the late 70's. That particular type stance is limiting in so many ways it petered out long ago.

You need to do some research, probably think a 6.5 Creed kills better than any of them "old" calibers lol.
The only advantage of the isosceles vs Weaver stance, is the full exposure of body armor during a gun fight (the Weaver exposes a bit of the side). So if you're not planning on wearing body armor, then the Weaver will expose less of you vitals. But it has been used for years (as you stated) for a good reason, but to each their own.
This thread isn't about arguing shooting technique, it's about a youth and his Dad out having a good time and enjoying the outdoors.
I started out as a mediocre handgun shooter. The one thing that really upped my game, was when I finally had that lightbulb moment, about focus on the front sight until the shot breaks. I would alight the sights, focus on the target, and squeeze the trigger...not so good.
Sight alignment and trigger control will deliver accuracy in any position, even laying on your side shooting under a vehicle.
It might help to only load 5 or 6 rounds in the magazine. He looked like a little fatigue was setting in by the time he got through the full magazine. Only loading a few rounds gives muscles a little break, and also means more training/muscle memory in releasing magazines, loading magazines, inserting magazines etc. Also time for a little critique and thinking about what just happened.

Yet here you are arguing about shooting technique in this thread. The lack of introspection made for a good laugh.
Posting a video of shooting on a shooting site is going to get some advice as sure as the sun rises. Some good and some not so good.
Jimmy even thanked a few posters and Rick Bin made some money$. Pretty good thread.

I have all the sources. They can't stop the signal.
Just bought them some non scratched glasses Dwayne.
Got an extra set of muffs too.
Jim; Most excellent sir!!
On the Walker thing, up here we could not find #10 caps for the last few years.
Sort of the same situation with .410 in that when a cousin was going to pick one up, I suggested he find some .410 shells first as they were worth more than the shotgun he was going to buy!!
Strange days for components is all and you'd hate to find a nice BP revolver and not be able to have it make smoke!
I've shot BP since I convinced my Dad to register a .36 Navy copy in his name when I was in my teens.
The .36 Navy revolvers are a hoot to play with too by the way Jim, even my Blackhawk didn't "point" like that thing did somehow.
Best to you all in your family shooting adventures.
Dwayne
PS; Us old guys love the pictures and videos so if you're so inclined to post and share, I for one always appreciate seeing the next shift getting a good start.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I clearly remember my own Dad coaching me along when I was your son's age. Building great memories with your son, there.
Also, Jag's post about planting a tree cracked me up
Let's say you're out there on Jim's pasture with a 30/06. You have the rifle set perfectly level, as is the ground. On the end of the barrel you have a gizmo holding a bullet just like the one in the chamber. Upon firing, said gizmo releases the bullet at the exact instant that the fired bullet leaves the barrel. Which bullet hits the ground first?
First correct answer gets to use Tarqueen is a Twatwaffle for a sign line.

Work on his stance JC. Not saying it to bust your chops at all. Saying it because of who I was long ago. Teach coach mentor NCO type of schit... Goes against my nature to not try and improve others performance. Gotta break bad trends before it gets ingrained 👍🏻
I have not meant any degradation by this post.
Unlike what can be seen per other's little fuuked up innuendo shots.
Wish my dad was like you back when. I might have actually liked the prick if he was even 1% the father you are to you kids.
Fuuuk it!!! This was worth while dropping a post IMO.. JC is a solid Cat and he has a solid family....
And it ain't making Bin a fuuking cent AFAIC me dropping a post.

I've got a bunch of extra hair tie goodies the boy can have it if his tresses get to blowing around too much and get into his eyes.
After cutting mine back from waist length to about a couple inches past my collar, it's finally back to 16" long or so now. I only need 3 or so hair ties to keep it in a nice pony tail. My wife was gracious enough to braid it for the months I was without the use of my right arm after surgery. Braided I only need two, one up top and one at the end.
Just say the word and I'll send up a few.

Cuzzin', I've also been saving my brass and if we ever meet up I'll bring it along and you can have it. Just blasted through another 150 rounds this afternoon...
We talked about doing that years ago. We were shooting really light loads of bullseye or 231 behind .38 wadcutters for ppc indoors, the bullet barely made it through the cardboard target at 50'.
Cuzzin', I've also been saving my brass and if we ever meet up I'll bring it along and you can have it. Just blasted through another 150 rounds this afternoon...

JC I was recently given a one gallon ziplock bag nearly full of once fired mixed headstamp 9mm brass. If you want it its yours for free as I havent reloaded 9 in years.

You put your kid on here looking like a hippie or a little girl, you've invited criticism. I predict the kid will become Trans, 'specially since Conrad is on board with that [bleep].

marktheshark; Good afternoon or evening already out in PA already, I hope the weekend behaved and this finds you well.
A tip of the battered Bailey for making that offer sir, sincere kudos as well.

You dumfuk phaagut talkin about ppls kids hits below the belt
Jim; Me again sir, I still hope you're all well and if the smiles on the photos are indicative, then you're running 100%.
Again I'll say that I'm looking back at a few things we did with our girls, who are now a decade and a bit ahead of your kids and I'm not now or ever trying to tell you or anyone what to do.
That said Jim, the girls still talk about the day we went to the range with a pair of Mk II target pistols, not for the first time of course but earlier on.
That day was special to them because I said as long as they kept them pointed downrange, they could run them dry as fast as they felt like and I'd load mags until my thumbs or the nearly 3 cartons of ammo ran out.
Well sir, they did heat those two pistols up alright and the ran through nearly 1500 rounds that afternoon.
One could not have wiped the smile off of either face for some time either.
And yes, they still bring up that day Jim.
So maybe just letting kids be kids and have some fun with a pistol can be forgiven once in awhile?
Thoughts from a fellow father looking back Jim, nothing more, nothing less.
Best to you all this week and thanks so much again for the photos.

Ren, I hope you post more because there are a bunch of us that are hand gun novices.
I can shoot a bow, shotgun and a rifle reasonably well.
Hand gun, not so much.
I mean, I can shoot cans off a post every time but there is no way I could compete with anybody.
Advice like you shared is appreciated.

A lot of talk about stance/grip that means nothing to a kid or litterally anyone. Foot here foot there is a long road to no where.
If you want a kid or anyone to very quickly learn stance/grip it does not require very much if any ammo.
With a safe backstop have them aim at a target. Grab the dust cover/lower frame of the the pistol. This also works with a rifle.
Tell them you will be pushing back and pulling forward and they need to adjust their stance/grip to keep the pistol as still as possible. Allow them to move anything. It's a game to find where their stance/grip is best.
Start pushing back and pulling forward. Add more push and pull as they adapt their stance to counter act your push and pull. Watch them move feet, shift hips, add grip strenght without any rounds.
Want to get real high tech and use a phone to record the changes.
In litterally less than 5 minutes a complete novice will get an 80% grip/stance without a single round of ammo.
This shit works and it's pretty close to free.

Good job Jimbo…..Ranch/Farm kids got it the best even if they don’t know it till they are older. Most of em get worked to death and end up hating it…. Good to see you have fun with them….life is short.

Great advise as per usual Rene! And good to see you posting again !!! I bet all 3 of your kiddo are good shots, too.
And good on Jim for letting his kiddos have some fun with target practice. My old man, a depression raised Farmer / Rancher, believed Target Practice was highly wasteful. 🤪 I didn’t become a skilled pistol shooter until I could afford to finally buy my own .22 ammo for my first pistol I purchased for myself at 15, a Colt SAA Scout.
Fortunately, my favorite Uncle, a Marine and Vietnam Vet, taught me good shooting skills.
Luckily for JC’s kiddos, they’ll remember these sessions as some of their best childhood memories.
