Firstly let me say I have never handled a Bergara or Henry single shot, I am hours from any stockist. I was really keen to buy a Henry 350 legend but they are not importing that caliber down here.

So Bergara BA-13 stainless 20" barrel is available, do you experienced fellas think it would be simple to have a smith run a 350 legend reamer and be good to go? both Henry 350 legend & Bergara 357 mag are 1-16" so please tell ive come up with a simple solution, I don't know if the Bergara is extractor or ejector so that maybe an issue

Thanks

If you’re starting with a .357 it would be probably easier to rechamber to the rimmed .360 Buckhammer rather than the rimless .350. If the Bergara BA-13 is the equivalent to the CVA Scout, it’s an extractor not an ejector and it’s spring loaded to snap into the groove on rimless rounds. It makes loading and unloading a bit “sticky” because you have to override that spring pressure.

Thanks for the reply, i'm an old bloke and wanted to keep the recoil factor down after head surgery I don't think the360 would be to friendly. I am thiking it might only need the rimmed extractor replaced with a rimless 223 but not sure how hard that would be

I had to look up what a BA-13 is. Looks exactly like a CVA Scout. They are extractor only. If you buy one in .357 magnum, your best options would be to re-chamber to .357 maximum or 360 BH.

I bought a CVA 350 Legend and had it re-chambered to 360 BH because I wanted to have a rimmed cartridge and be able to shoot .358 diameter bullets. I don't know if factory ammo is available to you, but you can make the brass from 30-30 cases.

The 360 BH might have slightly more felt recoil, but it's very manageable.

Since I posted found a fella down here who turned a 9mm Bergara into a 350 legend he went that way because of the rimless case but its 1-10" twist opposed to standard 1-16" he reckons it shoots fine with 150's

Would be easier if the importer simply brought in some Henry's

Up here, .350 ammo is so common, available, and cheap it’s almost a no-brainer for something in that general performance bracket. Handloaders can, of course, do well with any of them, except there’s no .360 brass AFIK. Surprising how quickly the .350 became virtually a “standard” cartridge, but I suppose there are a bunch of hunters that were hobbled by shotgun/ML-only regs in the Midwest and sections of the East that were waiting for something of the sort.

No such regs in my state, but the .360 has a lot of appeal for me anyway as an all-purpose cartridge, but with no brass available, I’ll just stick with my .357 Henry for now, and my .44 mag Low Wall.

Myself I would want a 360 BH because it's simple to make it from common 30-30 cases .....350 Legend you're stuck finding brass it cannot be made from anything else...
Also 360 BH has a rim it will function better in a single shot.....350 Legend uses the mouth of the case to head space so over all length is very important to short and it will not fire....

I'll join the side that say's the no-brainer would be to re-cut the chamber to .357 Maximum. You'll have great flexibility with catering loads to suit the situation at hand, and at full snot recoil wouldn't be any worse than a Legend (and you won't be limited by the paucity of .355 rifle bullets - I shoot 200 grainers in mine).

I'll offer 2nds on what gnoahhh says. My Henry 350 Legend was redone by Mike bellm to 357 Maximum and also he lengthened the throat so I can shoot .358 diameter bullets.

This exemplifies one reason to be a rifle loony in these modern times. The options are limitless and the technology to adapt to them is commonplace and affordable. 40 years ago, not so much.

The 1 in 10" twist shouldn't be an issue for the 350 Legend. It will allow for longer bullets and slower velocity if you hand load. The 9mm/350 Legend bullets won't be overspun to have any detrimental effects if at full velocity.

Isn’t the 350 legend .355”/9 mm. Does this not create issues trying to chamber it in a .358” caliber round and running.358” bullets down a .355” bore? Thinking you’re going to need more than a chamber reamer.

If anything else is needed, it's only a throating reamer. The throat needs to be slightly wider than bullet diameter. The rest will all come out in the end [of the barrel].
