I bought a new Browning T-bolt in .22 WMR. The action is a bit stiff and sticky. I want to slick it up. Any advise on the best way to go about this? I'm assuming a hundred or so cycles of the bolt with valve grinding compound or some other similar abrasive compound. What grit or compound should I use? TIA

I'd start with this, instead of using valve lapping compound.

Sanding sponges, fine, ultrafine, superfine

That and some light oil. That action should slick right up. I've had some Savage rifles that were sticky and rough, and these ultra fine sanding sponges help to polish the bolt and smooth it up. Sometimes you have to hit the inside of the receiver a little too.

I have lathered up the action with tooth paste and worked the action while watching TV or listening to music. No cavities and it seemed to smooth it up. Just plain ole toothpaste, with no whiteners, mouthwash and other added stuff. I cleaned it out with foam type gun cleaners.
