While I am working hard getting fields in order and doing everything else that comes with spring time in Ag, my son jumped on a plane with his Uncle to go on an adventure of a lifetime in New Zealand. Tahr are an interesting critter. Had a navy buddy that did a hunt to NZ and he got one. Makes a really cool mount

So, I received a bit more info through text. Apparently, they spotted the bull a ways out. My son and the guide snuck in using some bushes for cover. He had to setup and wait about 10 minutes for the Tahr to clear some scrub brush. The tahr started walking and my son had a window between some bushes. Didn't hesitate. 160 yards, 7-08 rifle, high shoulder shot. Dropped him in his tracks. 11 year old bull. Guide says its the best bull they have killed this season so far. Trip of a lifetime for the boy, great job! Probably my most favorite trip, beautiful country and great people was my experience . I was lucky to take a gold medal Stag and a silver medal Chamois but never had a chance at a Bull Tahr of that caliber. Congrats again to your boy!!

What's the plan for taxidermy? The Tahr and the Chamois will be sent to Hibler's in Kingsville to get proper mounts done.

For anyone who cared to know,
Luke's Tahr scored 44. Gold metal SCI.
Also, they hunted the Tahr on foot. No helicopter drop off. All hiking. I guess that's relatively rare.
